Onliest Smeg David Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 I'm interested in purchasing a personalised number, but never done so before. Ones I'm interested in are being sold by several brokers, so clearly they don't own them and are commission selling. How do I confirm I'll get what I'll be paying for when several brokers selling same number? How do I know which broker to go for? Which brokers do you recommend and why? Cheers Quote
Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 I've only experience of buying direct (3 times) from DVLA- surprisingly easy, cheap, quick and a good way of seeing wha plates are REALLY available. http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/ I don't trust plate brokers. But no personal experience. Quote

XTR2Turbo Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 I think most brokers are effectively selling on commission and don't own the plates. That is why it can appear on several sites. As ever I would make an offer if there is a plate you are interested in. I think the transaction itself should be fine. There is one in Dunstable, can't recall the name, that I used a while ago and the process was straightforward. David Quote
Mooch Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Actually, you never own the plate, you are buying the right to display it and the authority for that comes from the DVLA. As the plate can only be registered with DVLA whichever broker gets to make the deal gets the money, hence several brokers might offer the same plate on their site. I had mine registered on a couple of sites, but it will sit there forever until someone wanting that plate comes along. The price of any plate is whatever someone is prepared to pay. From what I recall, a dateless plate with XYZ 123 format will start at around £500-£750, XYZ 12 around £1250-£1500 and more if it 'says something interesting' My mate has 4321 GO on his Lambo - probably worth more than the car! Yanto Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 I'm not particularly interested in personal plates despite mine having one, I did recently get valuations from a number of dealers, the lowest was £500, the highest £1500, most were about the £750 - £800 mark. What i did find interesting was that all sites vastly inflate that price, so i guess they will give what they've quoted to the seller and pocket a substantial amount for doing not a lot. Have you asked on here to see if somebody has one on retention or would transfer? Mine is of no interest to somebody unless they have a V8 Westfield Sports Car, or they run a V8 and are called Willy Simple Crimple or such like. Ian Quote
Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Dave, I bought my TOY plate from DVLA, which I know you have said that they do not have anything of interest, but I thought you might like to get an idea of where people have bought from. Cheers, Julie Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Bought a couple direct off DVLA, very easy process. Quote
Andy - a15cro Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Ive bought from Registration Transfers (twice), New Reg (once), and DVLA a number of times. Each transaction has been easy, although the DVLA is often cheaper. You can now transfer them on to your car online instantly these days once the certificate comes through. Quote
Marcus Barlow - Show and Events Co-ordinator Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Dave, You can register on dvla auctions, they are quite regular and have some interesting plates for auction - they send you email list of auction regs plus auction times etc, you can live bid or pre bid or go in person. The dvla website as previously mentioned is good/cheap but limited, all other websites seem to be a rip off.!! What reg are you after? Quote

Robin Parker (Red Spider) - Yorkshire AO Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 I bought mine from DVLA, no problems, no extras to pay for transfer, also swapped it when I changed the car online for the £80 fee. Tried to get "ROB 1 N" but was unavailable or out of my price range. Is it for the Westfield? There's a house near me running two cars with the same plate on, keep meaning to check it out on the DVLA website. 1 Quote
