Blatman Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 It stretches beyond broadband. Uber is shouted down by black cab drivers who charge too much or worse won't do small journeys as "it's too close" Ever heard of "The Knowledge"? Comparing Uber drivers to London Licenced Taxi Drivers is like comparing Steven Hawking to you. You're a scientist, but compared to Hawking, not a very good one. If you had a choice of scientists, would you choose the journeyman or the Nobel prize winner? Yes the Nobel guy costs more, but he's gonna be better. Ever heard of the rules for black cab journeys? They are not allowed to refuse journeys that are inside a radius of 6 miles from Charing Cross, no matter how short or long. Outside that they are free to choose. The driver is not obliged to stop when flagged down, but if he does he must accept the fare unless it is over 6 miles in distance or finishes beyond the boundaries of the licensing area. If the taxi is waiting on a rank or at a stand, he or she must take the fare (unless there is a reasonable reason not to - whatever reasonable may mean). From here: http://www.londonblackcab.com/ourtaxis.htm It also explains why they cost more. It's not simply profiteering. Black Cab licences aren't given away and the rules for them, their vehicles and their conduct are strict. And what you know about network infrastructure and how it works is equally flawed. Quote
dombanks Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 Black cabs in liverpool are a rip and frequently use the so called knowledge and rip you off. I don't give a crap about them knowing every road I do care that it cost £3 more for my journey. I do also care that they take the p*** and purposefully go longer routes. when they realise you know where you are and call them on it they get shirty. As for the 6 mile thing. Try a cab from lime st to the uni in the middle of the day when your in a hurry.... the line "it's not far enough for me to go to the back of the rank" is common place. As for the phone... again don't give a flying **** about my knowledge of a network ... just know my phone doesnt work where it should and O2 claimed it's because they can't be bothered to put a mast up and don't use others networks. But still it's late amd hawking is coming to help install the NMR tomorrow Quote
