DavidC Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Just wanna tell people about a positive experience when dealing with Mr Hewing, the man who runs www.donorspares.co.uk I bought a pair of Cortina Uprights off him in October, but having not ordered a kit yet, I never really had a proper look at them. Once I ordered the kit 2 weeks ago, I decided to start stripping the uprights, and getting some shot blasting done. Upon inspection I found that one of the uprights was damaged around the lower ball joint mounting hole. Kinda concerned, I took some digicam photos and emailed them to Andy Hewing pointing out that I'd bought these from him and one was damaged. Even though they are probably 20 years old, off a scrapped car, and I bought them 3 months earlier, he agreed with no fuss whatsoever so supply a replacement part. It arrived today, and is absolutely fine, no damage at all. Top Man, I've now got front uprights, rear calipers and Lobros from him. If you're building a car and need bits off donor cars, go to Mr. Hewing cos you can't fault service like that. David C Quote
markg Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 david, just a thought but , when i started to build i had donor calipers, but looked at them for a few days and then got some recon ones ! £100 rear the pair! ask for lockheed , if you can get them! front calipers are about £80 a pair recon! DavidC Posted January 24, 2003 Author Posted January 24, 2003 I've bought a pair of front calipers that have been shot blasted and had the piston seals renewed. They've cost me £30, not bad considering the seals for 1 caliper cost £18!! The rears that I've got (was worth getting cos I got the Lobros too) just need a good wire brushing and shot blasting. I've got access to both at work. I'll get new pistons and seals (time to use that Ford Privelige discount I feel) and paint them up. Quote
stu999 Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 David, price recons up as well, as you *may* find that the seal repair kits for the rear calipers will cost you almost as much as buying recons for the rear (from a motor factor etc). Cheers, Stu. Quote
