dombanks Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 So how do you decide how much to overlap the boards? Boards are 1850x195x14 mm Should each overlap be the same or should it be random? Quote
bigals Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Random lengths that way you stager the joints and don't waste any materials Quote
dombanks Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 So when you say random lengths how do you decide on those random lengths when you start? At the mo they are all the same length. Quote
pistonbroke Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Lay the first run then start the 2nd run with the offcut from the end of the last board , or if using a new board so the joints overlap by say 1/3 or so , followed by a full board etc etc . Simples 1 Quote
dombanks Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 Yeah ended up starting to do that and then just sort of made it up. Odd lengths just came along. The pattern was repeating every 4 widths for a while the we just started cutting bits up so it looked right. Just got to get skirting boards, cut the damp proof sheet stuff neat and box a pipe in now Quote
SootySport Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 I would say an even overlap is right as you have done. When I did mine I had the skirting boards off as they were being re-newed as well, does look like a better finish but it depends how far you want to go cost wise. Quote
