recommendation for parking at heathrow

I will need to to park at Heathrow in September and need to park for 8 days.  I don't want to leave the keys, nor do i want some scrote ragging the car 10 miles to some piece of wasteland, therefore I would like a self park carpark, I believe (subject to confirmation by her who booked flights) that we will be returning to T2, despite flying out of Gatwick (don't ask!).

Can anybody recommend a carpark?

Cheers

Best parking I did was turn up at the terminal and let someone else take it. Easy and quick at 5 am.

Only cost 10 more and if they want to rag a KA good luck to them

What ever you do use a reputable company. Must admit I used Purple Parking Valet parking at Heathow with no issues, only had a couple of extra miles. they also have quite a few services where you park up odd site and then they bus you in.

How do you plan to get from one airport to the other.

I also know of others who have used hire cars to travel to and from the airport and it's been cheaper than parking.

Going to get the Heathrow/Gatwick shuttle bus, i did wonder about hire cars although in my experience one way hires starting or terminating at airports were fairly costly.

Wherever you park around there, you have to leave the keys with them.   I've used Purple Parking and APH with no problems many times.  Meet and Greet is good as you just arrive at the drop off point outside a terminal and you don't see your car until you return from your hols.    If you don't fancy that then a taxi is your best bet from home,  probably won't cost you much more.

If a more valuable car you could try garaged.com.

He is located between Gatwick and Heathrow.  You can drive and park there and he will drop you at the terminal or meet you with you car as you prefer.

He runs a car storage business.

At Gatwick Hilton I have also stayed one night and got a great discount on their parking.

If you're ever going from Heathrow with an early start I can recommend The Thistle Hotel, it's just north of the perimeter road opposite from T5. They do good park and fly deals and you can get The Pod from there into T5, it works out marginally more than meet and greet but the hotel restaurant and balcony have great views of the runway, it's a great start to your holiday and only 10 mins from the terminal.

I wouldn't recommend them, heard lots of tales about cars being left on random streets not in the warehouse - also their insolvency proceedings make grim reading:

Ah didn't know that. A friend used them last year and seemed happy

I know a few who've had good service, but a few who have been waiting hours at Heathrow or who have found their cars have been dumped on the street when away.

Add in the questions unanswered in the Insolvency Practioners report about Directors actions, and I'd stay well clear personally.

Used Purple parking a couple of times and the car came back as we had dropped it of, easier than lugging tired kids and bags on a bus, the car only had a couple of miles more on the clock than when we dropped it off

Er, not if you use the on airport parking. Yes it costs more but the balance to be struck is no-one is going to rag the car and you will bet to and from it a lot more quickly. I use the Long Term car park at LHR a lot even though I live less than 10 miles away (sometimes I don't go straight home...). Never any issues and the buses are regular and reliable.

Ok chaps, i've taken all comments/recommendations on board and done as I do when my Mrs gives advice and ignore it all and do as i please.

Seriously though, I have pre-booked with NCP so just park my car, take my keys with me, shuttle bus takes 12 mins to/from terminal 2/3 at a cost of just over £50 for 8 days, fully flexible booking can even be cancelled at no cost up to 2 hrs before booked arrival time and no credit/debit card surcharge.

I'll let you all know in Sep if it goes pear shaped.

Cheers

Out of interest I did e-mail them for a quote.

At first they would not give me a quote, I received a very defensive reply asking where I had heard about the company as they don't advertise. I replied to the effect of from a fellow member in a car club, although i didn't state which one.

2 days later I received a quote of £210 for 8 days, discounted to £160 because i was a member of a car club.
