cockpit cover

Recently invested in a Walker St Clair shower cap / cockpit cover in case I'm caught short whilst up on the moors.

I'm assuming these covers have no orientation and are they same dimensions all the way round and thus a universal fit?

Perhaps I've tried it the wrong way round or perhaps it's not really made to fit S2000 but it would appear that water will simply run down the edges and in through the doors...?

I fit mine with the stitched seam at the back & then pull the back down so it goes under the arches. Also if it's windy there is two tabs either side you can connect a elastic cored to under the car from one side to the other.

Mine has a white tag at edge - I have a length of cord which I fix through this and around bases of wipers to secure if windy.

Then either side there are black loops at edge - I have cord through these which in wind can be fastened together under Westie.

The rear then goes fully under back of Westie into rear arches.

Elastic can be moved around in it's channel to allow best fit.

Thanks

OK I'll go into the garage and have another look for a stitched seam.  I did find the 2 black "eye" tags and the white Walker St Clair tag,.

This just about shows how I've done it...

side cords can go right across Westie to meet other side or looped around protruding seat rear bolts.

I have a pair of vacuum fixed hooks that stick to the cockpit sides to get the same effect as the Smeg - saves my poor old back from having to faff about underneath the car.

Thanks Gary (and others).

Looks a much better fit now I'm using the black tags.

You need to get it much taughter than that over the cockpit Craig, or it will flood in heavy rain! (Don't ask how I know...)

To be fair, it was originally done for ZK bodywork cars rather than FW, but it's elastic straps should be ok.

The back edge will hook under the rear edge of a ZK tub, and under the back edges of the rear wheel arches, this both gets it low at the sides and pulls it tight over the cockpit. With sidescreens, you can tuck the edges of the cap under the front lower corners of the side screens, again, helping to keep it low at the sides and tight over the top. Use of elastic threaded through the tabs helps a great deal here though.

Rather than threading the shock cord through everytime, I bought some little mould plastic carabiners off eBay. One end of the elastic shock cord is tied to the loop on the shower cap at one side and tied to a carabiner which hooks into the loop on the other.
