Yanto
I have a larger than average garden, which is nice apart from when i strim (petrol machine) the edges, the nylon "wire" which is supposed to be heavy duty and about 2.5 mm dia wears away after only doing a few feet, and if it catches a bit of sheep wire it just disintegrates, ok it's B&Q stuff but sold as HD, long lasting etc, of course the auto-feed doesn't work, never has, so it means stopping, stripping the head down, extracting more "wire" reassemble, it's like "Groundhog Day" Can anybody recommend a truly proven long lasting "wire" ? Cheers Ian
BenD
Stihl strimmer wire. When I did gardening for a living that was all we ever used and they do differnt thickness aswell but it's not cheap
Yanto
Yes, I did wonder about Stihl, they do have a price range which goes from expensive to eye watering, but value for money and ease of use I might give it a try.
Kit Car Electronics
+1 for Stihl - I have the 2.4mm orange one in my Makita strimmer and it's brilliant.
Luapno
Have you thought of a brush cutter instead of the wire https://www.amazon.co.uk/STIHL-BRUSH-CUTTER-STRIMMER-TOOTH/dp/B00G486FRE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1463512616&sr=8-2&keywords=brush+cutter+blade+stihl Not sure what strimmer you have but it may be a better option for the thick stuff
ACW
Get a sthil strimmer with sthil wire. Proper autofeed head and decent. Cost a few bob, but does the job proper. Virtually never have to go to the brush cutter head. Ive got an FS450 and its brilliant.
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary
As with all things you get what you pay for Stihl all day long for me.
Man On The Clapham Omnibus
I have a cheap strimmer/brush cutter/extended hedge trimmer/chainsaw lopper from Trueshopping and the strimmer head is awful. After a bit of looking around and experimenting I bought this head : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002X3EGKW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It is excellent and the 4mm cord seems almost indestructible. Man On The Clapham Omnibus
They are nylon with notches in them. The 4mm ones are really aggressive. Depending on the power of your strimmer you can buy a two or four cord head. Mine is 52cc and manages the four cord head very well.
