Westfield Megablade question

Recommended Posts

Good morning,

Can anyone give me some advice, I am in the process of buying a Westfield Megablade, at present it is sorn, the car is in extremely good condition, the current owner has fitted new wheels, tyres, exhaust system and finally a new motor which as yet is not recorded on the log book.

The motor is still a Honda fire blade engine, however the original cc is slightly lower than the new one, l believe that it is a newer model than the original.

My question is will the new engine being different from the original have any effect when I present the car for it's mot ?

When I send the log book off to become the new keeper should I inform the DVLA of the new engine ?

From what I have read these engines don't last forever and I may have to change it again in the future.

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

Mick

Yes you should give the new engine no. to the DVLA.    As you are having an MOT soon ask  the tester for a conformation letter for the engine no.    as this is sometimes asked for by the DVLA.   The change in cc is very small and won't affect your VED band and also tell your insurance company, again no premium charge should happen as they just class you car in very broad insurance groups ie. Bike engine, V8, Turbo under 2.0, non turbo under 2.0 etc.

Pretty sure DVLA will only ask for a letter of confirmation if it affects the road tax being paid.

I converted my car from a car engine to a 1000cc bike engine which put my car in the lower PLG band and had to send proof.

Thanks for your advice SootySport and CosKev, being as the car will be at the garage next week for a check over and the mot, I will ask them to give me a confirmation letter just incase I need it.

The log book has been sent off to the DVLA by the previous owner, should I wait until I get it back from the DVLA before I inform them of the engine number change ?

Am I right that I have to wait for the log book to be returned before I can apply for the road tax or is there a way that I can tax it once I have the mot ?

Thanks once again for you help.

Yeah you need the V5 to fill in the new engine number/details.

Once it's MOT'ed/insured you can tax it using the ref number off the small new keepers part of V5 previous owner should have given you :)

The seller should have given you the Green portion of the V5,  use the reference number to tax the car on line and providing the mot an insurance are in place, you'll be legal on the road.

As cos kev says, you can't change vehicle details until the V5 comes back, then you have to send back to them :)
