Resting MX5 engine on the sump/cutting cam cover

I'm sure I read on here somewhere that it's a bad idea to rest an MX5 engine on it's sump??

I'm painting the head and want to remove the engine hoist mounting point to paint that area (It's currently suspended on an engine hoist) am I ok to rest it on wooden blocks for a few hours while I paint it?

Also, I've seen a few cam covers that have been modified/cut so the belt can be removed without taking the cover off, can this be done on a MK2 1.8 as there's a cam sensor in the cover?

Any disadvantages to the mod?

Thanks

Ian

Mine's never suffered any ill effects from being sat on the sump. i normally stick an offcut of 4x2 under the front of the sump so it helps to keep it level and more stable.

On my mk1 engine I run a cut cam-cover but I guess on a Mk2 with the cam sensor on the front you'll need to be a bit more creative if you need to keep the sensor.
