Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup) Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 I would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to all those members that helped to fix and also fixed Buttercup today at Stoneleigh. I felt quite embarrassed at having to push Buttercup through all the parked Westfield cars but a number of people helped to push Buttercup and they also tried to offer advice. We tried to bump start Buttercup but she would not start. They eventually left and with the assistance of others I was able to get Buttercup back to the WSCC area. A number of WSCC members then spent around 30 minutes working on the car. A couple of members were also laid on their backs working underneath the car. I was then sent for some fuses and one member who I met near the stall lent me a few pounds to buy the fuses I needed after I left my money in the car. One chap waited with us when he could have made his way home. Buttercup was then repaired. I am unsure of the names of all who helped which is why I have not posted the names of those I know, as I do not want to leave anyone out, but you all know who you are. You people are what this club is all about and I felt so embarrassed and so grateful all at the same time. Thank you so very much for today and it was really appreciated. 6 Quote

Captain Colonial Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Can I just say I have an alibi for the time in question and cannot be blamed for the breakdown - thank you. 1 Quote

Greggs Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 What a nightmare Geoffrey, did you get home without any problems? Quote
Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup) Posted May 2, 2016 Author Posted May 2, 2016 What a nightmare Geoffrey, did you get home without any problems? Hi Lee. Yes got home without incident. Need to get Steve to have a look to find out why she broke down though. Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Glad you got home OK - especially as you had a long distance to go. A 3 Amp fuse for the ignition is probably too low. I would leave it with the 5A in there. David Quote
tex Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 So that was the issue a blown fuse? Maybe you need to get hold of a tin geoff, like the round shoe polish type, fill it with... Assortment of fuses, spare throttle cable, electric connection crimps, and any other small things you can squeeze in. Put some electricians tape around the edge to seal up. Said tape can be reused if needed later so go round the tin say 3 times. I didnt know you had issues.. Hope you got home ok.. Quote
Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup) Posted May 2, 2016 Author Posted May 2, 2016 Hi chaps. Thanks for all the messages. What I really need is to spend a full day with someone who will spend some time with me to show me these "maintenance" and running repair issues. My problem is that I have never had an interest in cars other than turning a key and driving one. I have always paid a garage to do work for me, that may not go down well but thats how it has been all my driving life. It when the simple things go wrong or when people ask me simple questions about cars that really lets me down. Without everyones help yesterday it would have been a tow truck home for me. 1 Quote
Robin Parker (Red Spider) - Yorkshire AO Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Didn't know you'd had a problem, I had some fuses you could have had in the boot, in fact, I'll get you some if you want. 1 Quote
Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup) Posted May 2, 2016 Author Posted May 2, 2016 Hi Robin. Thanks for the kind offer but I now have a supply of them stored in Buttercup, Quote
