Andy - a15cro Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I recently noticed that one of my side light bulbs had gone out so Ive upgraded to LED's, while I was on I have also upgraded the headlight bulbs as well but can't comment until I try them in the dark. Quote

mr_mcp Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Mattt, how did you wire your drls out of interest? I'm thinking of doing the same, but my electrical knowledge is pants! Quote
Rhett Turner - Black Country AO Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 When I fitted my DRLs I purchased a dimming controller, it takes a positive feed, feed from ignition and the head lights (plus earths). The DRLs come on with the ignition but dim when I put the headlights come on. If I remember correctly the one I have is switchable so that if I want it can turn the DRLs off when the head lights come on, plus it was designed to take a live feed from the lighting circuit. The Various feeds I used were all behind the dash, permanent live (to lights), switched live, feed to lights etc. I then had to route the live and neutral to the DRs. If anything this was probably the most difficult bit, getting the wires from behind the dash to the front of the engine bay while the engine and gearbox are in place. Quote
SootySport Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 I've tried led sidelights but they didn't last long http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-BRIGHTEST-T10-CAR-BULBS-LED-ERROR-FREE-CANBUS-15-SMD-WHITE-W5W-501-SIDE-LIGHT-/281930573720?hash=item41a45f2798:g:2HQAAOSw~OVWuOW9 Vibration from the Westfield suspension had shaken the led (The yellow bits) and they slowly fell out one by one fell and they collected in the headlamp bowl. I've since tried enclosed led bulbs and they have lasted over a year now, these ones http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-WHITE-T10-4-LED-ROUND-HEAD-Standard-Bulbs-Wedge-Lamp-Light-W5W-501-1060WT-R-/221811645127?hash=item33a5011ac7:g:TagAAOSwMmBVjplp I'll be trying these in the future http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-501-CANBUS-CREE-LED-XENON-SUPER-WHITE-BULBS-T10-W5W-ERROR-FREE-SIDELIGHTS-/131495129101?hash=item1e9db8700d:g:s4YAAOSwPc9WxG73 and they are more robust and brighter, so people tell me. As for headlights, the Osram H4 Nightbreakers http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OSRAM-H7-12V-55W-UP-TO-90-NIGHT-BREAKER-PLUS-SET-SEALED-NEW-/311538311018?hash=item4889215f6a:g:Xg8AAOxyyq5TNaUN are best of the halogen bulbs, but not as white as the leds. I have these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Philips-12342WHVSM-WhiteVision-Halogen-Headlamp-Bulb-H4-W5W-12-V-/371538556595?hash=item56816c76b3:g:EGwAAOSwFqJWol~2 they match the leds but actual light output on the road is not as good. Before you buy bulbs, you need to check you are getting 12v.+ at the headlight socket, you might find voltage is down due to old wiring and HR connectors. Quote
Ross (Rosshbar) Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 Sooty headlights are only dipped , mcp I just wired led through to new switch on dash as you would with spots Quote
