Stu Faulkner Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 I have a van reg from our CCTV. Any idea how to find out if there local by tracing the reg or do I just go to the police? Quote
Quinten Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Report to 101, or more likely, the council. DVLA wont be very helpful to find out the owner, unless it was on your private land Quote

Stu Faulkner Posted April 16, 2016 Author Posted April 16, 2016 Unmarked white van with a private plate. There's a tip 1/4 mile down the road, lazy gits. Quote
Captain Colonial Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Unmarked white van with a private plate. There's a tip 1/4 mile down the road, lazy gits. Not lazy - tight. They'd get charged if they took their rubbish to the tip in a white van. They are scumbags to be sure. Quote
Mighty Mart Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Only sign written vans get charged at our local tip. Hope they throw the book at em though...dumping is just not on IMHO. Mart. 1 Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Our dump doesn't allow business waste at all. Any form of commercial vehicle, (pickups included) needs a certificate to even be able to dump domestic/private waste. (And the type of waste has to be logged on the certificate). I really hate the sort of scum that do fly tip, but we do also make it difficult/expensive to legitimately dispose of some waste too. Quote
jeff oakley Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 This will most likely be one of the caravan utilising nomadic travellers who have done this or similar low life's. The big issue is that due to EU regulations burying waste in the ground attracts huge taxes, IIRC £80 per ton. Similarly burning waste is frowned upon so the costs are high there. Councils do not want to provide tipping facilities due to the increased cost of disposal and they know fly tipping will increase, but here is the good bit for them, if it is on public land they clean it up, if it is private land , the land owner foots the bill. A mate is a farmer and has been hit a couple of times by these people. One such time the police did find out the householder who had paid for the waste to be disposed of. He had not checked they were registered waste carriers and ended up footing the clean up bill. If they get caught, the above no fixed abode simply move on, never to be prosecuted, if it people who have a fixed abode , the fines are laughably low, so no deterrent for them. I always check any waste I have to pay to be disposed is by appropriate persons, it costs more but we avoid feeding these scum Quote
Captain Colonial Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Yep, landfill tax is nearly £85 per ton now. Burning waste to create power is the next big thing. Well, it's an old thing, but we're getting better and better at sorting our waste now, and can burn it more cleanly to make electricity. Fly tipping is one reason why "pay as you throw" with bin chipping has never taken off. People would rather dump their waste somewhere else (or stick it in their neighbour's bins) than pay their fair share to get rid of it safely. "Pay as you throw" resulted in a huge rise in fly tipping in the south of Ireland, and also a massive increase in vermin as a result. Vermin as in rats, rather than the vermin who fly tip. It's hard to get people to do the right thing. Quote
Stu Faulkner Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 I'll pop in to the local Police tomorrow and see what they think. Quote
dombanks Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Didn't they start putting chips in bins but some paper (probably the mail) started encouraging people to remove them. Quote
Nemesis Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 The fine for littering can be as high as 2K..... the fuzz ought to take some action Quote

What they are starting to do, I have read, is to see if there any identification in the rubbish and then the person who has engaged the waste disposal is hit with the clean up bill. The scum still find ways out. Quote
blue ass fly Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 We live out in the sticks and theres tyres sofas and fridges regularly dumped - usually in the gateway to fields I agree they should be dealt with but as dave said, the local tips dont allow vans, pickups - even if its for social not work, braked trailers and even count how many visits you make in a day My local one is staffed by what i think is the russian defence force and theyve got their head in your boot as you unload It was covered on radio 2 yesterday and many people said if they calmed down at the local tip the fly tipping would stop Quote
