Tommygun Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Hello great minds of the westy world. I'm in the market at some point soon (this year) to try to tease out a few more horses from under the bonnet of the 3.9 Seight Completely standard engine connected to t5 cosworth box on TVR ratios (PeteG's build very tidy) What would people recommend in terms of cams and any other upgrades that aren't too technical (grinding etc) as a newbie at a lot of mechanics but keen to try my arm. Hope all is well, looking forward to this rain stopping in Manchester Tom Quote
6carjon Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Hi Tom Check out real steels website for a good description of cams and properties. If you don't want to do it yourself there are specialists such as v8 developments and John eales as the main ones and we'll recommended. Never used them but ric wood is near you and shows lots of v8 stuff on his site. I used both jon eales and v8 developments. Cheers jon Quote
Tommygun Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 Cheers Jon Yeah I've been perusing real steel but keeping my credit card in the next room Cheers for the mention of rick wood, didn't know about him and Stockport is much friendlier than the other distances for v8 developments and JE See what they say. T5amx Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 In my Seight ive got typhoon cams and it flys!! Quote
6carjon Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Hi Tom Have you considered a tvr specialist, the x works team have a good reputation and I use torque rvt the near me in Middlewich who are also very good and will advise or do updates for you. Typically if your engine is standard it will need cam, lifters, and air flow meter if it's injection ? Also an ecu update and possibly some headwork too.if is a carb I don't know much on these but obviously jet changes and setup.you will probably need a real specialist for this as not many carry lots of spare jets now. Depends on your budget but if you look at tvr power Kit list for their upgrades it will give you some idea of how much to change ? Cheers jon Quote
Tommygun Posted April 15, 2016 Author Posted April 15, 2016 Good advice jon The car has a edelbrock 500 carb on it (very nice) It's been built and set up beautifully by PeteG on here, lovely chap. I'm going to call Ric Wood soon as a few mates and grow ups that race I know recommend him too. Typhoon cams from real steel? T5amx? Self installed or shop? And did you get a full kit? Cheers people Love this community Quote
