Terry Everall Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 The normal snap on kitchen unit hinges on my daughters house have come loose The blind grub screws that hold the backplate on the side of the unit have stripped the wooden threads Anyone got a simple repair? I wonder if a wood filler will be ok ? Thanks Quote
Quinten Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Would something like http://www.amazon.co.uk/Supa-Fix-APX4-Strength-Adhesive-Reinforcing/dp/B00MTND6YS work? I've used it on a plastic lid and it really does dry up hard, ready to be redrilled... Quote
Kit Car Electronics and Essex AO Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 A couple of matchsticks with PVA often makes a good repair for screw holes Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Terry if the units are side by side, so you have two gables together just stick a couple of 32mm woodscrews in. 1 Quote
Mark Redpath - WSCC Membership Secretary Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 re-drill the door 35mm blind hole, and relocate the hinge, then refit the backplate into fresh carcase, use a blank to cover existing hole in door... easy peasy.... Quote
Terry Everall Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 How do you red rill the large hole for the part of the hinge that is on the door? It is an end unit Paul so I cant use long screw Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Is it a very visible end Terry? Can you drill right through and put an M6 machine screw through, perhaps with a mushroom head on the outside. I not a fan of any of those fillers, they may work for a while, but the hinge fixings will come loose again in chipboard. If your going to move the hinge you need a pillar drill and a 35mm blind hole cutter. You can do it with a router if you've got one and you know what you are doing. Quote
Terry Everall Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 Thanks Paul A few good ideas for me Quote
Andy (Sycho) Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 You can either use some of these http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Hinge-Repair-Plates-Screws-Kitchen-Bedroom-Cabinet-Cupboards-Doors-Mounting-/391231986326?nav=SEARCH Or has the unit got a decor end if so you can screw into that. Andy Quote
Terry Everall Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 Those plates look interesting! Quote
Olliebeak Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Used those plates on my kitchen doors, work great far better than original screws etc, they will even stand up to teenagers leaning on the open doors! Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Ooh not seen those before, they look like they should work. Quote
Terry Everall Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 I have ordered a pair as design looks practical Quote
