Peak District Sun 10th April Another Hidden Road

Recommended Posts

Meet at The Wheatsheaf, Baslow, DE45 1SR at 10.30am. Following on from the last and very successful 'hidden roads' run out this road takes us up high into the Peak District and of course will finish at a nice cafe for some lunch.

I am late posting this because after 3 wet ones I have been waiting for a weather report and it has actually forecast a dry day.

Anybody joining us?

Julie

I was going to say it's just us then but it looks like Becky and Andy will be joining us.

Great news Mart, I love it when the cars get unsorn, it's been ages since we have seen Becks and Andy. The forecast is excellent and the views will be good on this road so I hope you can bring the go-pro-y -thingy again.

Sorry to miss the others but you are all doing some nice, fun things, have a good day guys.

We met at The Wheatsheaf on a bright, sparkly, sunshiny day. It must have warmed up because I was actually able to discard one of my coats, although I still have everything else on, hats, arm warmers, ear muffs etc

A double thank you to Martyn and Sue for coming along and bringing Rebecca and Andy. A new member called Alan came along too, we briefly met Alan a while back when he had just bought his car. I remember him because he was the first person that I had met that actually lived in the Peak District National Park. Alan came in his car called Thundernuts, no messing with that name is there? We were paid a visit by ex-member and ex-Westfield owner Tricky too.

We set off by going along one of the 'hidden roads' from a previous outing. We went past the tourist hot spots, Monsal Head and Castleton, before turning onto our new road by Cave Dale. It is fairly narrow to start with, up and around the corkscrew, before reaching the wide smooth flowing bendy bits. Barely another car or cyclist in sight, it is just not a well known road, it is 'hidden'

We, well I, actually, needed a wee so I decided to stop us for a pit stop at The Anchor Inn. This pub has a great position on a crossroads, so we got to view all the nice bikes and cars that were having their day out in the Peak District while we sat outside with a brew, and there were a lot of them. Martyn had to spoil it though didn't he...I mean caravans, uurgghh, you can honestly not admire caravans Martyn. I really think we need to have words, it may mean that you can't come out with us anymore if this vile behaviour carries on  :p  :p

Suitably refreshed (especially when Rebecca got the sweeties out, yum yum) we set off for the final leg of the journey down the great Crowdecote road and to The Tea Junction at Hulme End for homemade soup and cakes.

Andy found the biggest puddle in the car park to park next to, and yes, Rebecca had to get out of the car at the drivers side.

The cars looked beautiful today, all very shiny in the sunshine, the cars and company have been bob on, thank you everyone, I hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have. Another thank you to everyone that voted for me in the Spirit of the Club Award, I hope to see you at 1pm in the tent at Stoneleigh, where I can thank you personally, as well as Geoffrey who nominated me. What a fantastic, friendly club this is

Well, Julie did arrange the correct weather for this outing…….at last  :d Excellent roads, lovely weather, good company and great food/cakes, what more could we ask for

Congratulations on a well deserved nomination and win in the Spirit of the Club award and yes this is a very friendly club apart from when AO's start dictating what you can or can't talk about  :p

Anyway, turn the sound down and have a look at some of the roads we travelled.

Thanks for that Martyn. Sorry sir about the caravan comment, I will try my best to learn to love caravans, it may take a while though  :barf:

Whoa, that is top banana is that video Martyn, thank you very much for your trouble. The first minute shows the typical sunny Sunday afternoon traffic level as cars queue to enter the Peak District, the next 26 minutes shows empty roads, barely another car, cyclist or pothole in sight....welcome to Julie's Peak District. Yes, briefly busy in Castleton and at Monsal Head and then back to nothingness.

I didn't realise just how brilliant those roads were, it is making me want to go straight back and do it all over again. If the weather forecast doesn't change for Curborough on Saturday i might just suggest it for Sunday too!

I might even overlook your caravan personality disorder and invite you, well, I mean you have admitted it on the video and that is the first step to curing it  :p

I watched it on the phone while making tea, then I have watched it with Glen just now on the lap top, it's so beautiful I think I am going to watch it again. Am I sad or what?

Very picturesque  :)

Furry Jaw mid screen a bit off putting though  :p

Ok ok, I don't like it either so I must remember that I need to remove the centre mirror when recording!
