I'm afraid I'm not brilliant, you giving the clue about the engine gave me the "hook" to go fishing in the murky world of "google", after a bit I stumbled across a photo of the front/side of a car, which had the same distinctive wheels.

 

I'd never heard of it before but fascinating story about the man.
