Hi

My donor car is an MX5 MK2 1.8S which is known as having 'big brakes'.

The MK2 has 7mm longer front uprights, so to avoid bump steer and make the installation a bit easier, I'm thinking of using MK1 uprights-question is, does the MK2 hub fit the MK1 upright and does the 'big brake' caliper fit too?

Also, I assume the abs ring is a press fit and i can cut a slot in it with the dremmel and ping it off?

Ta

I'm sorry I can't answer your question but one of the Mazda SDV gurus will be along to help you out soon.

However, with regard to the bump steer and MK2 uprights, I recall someone on the forum saying that Westfield had modified the chassis to take account of MK2 uprights! I don't know if that is true but the Mazda experts will know or a simple call to Westfield and ask the question. I will be interested in the answer because I have already fitted the MK2 uprights to my chassis but not completed my car yet!

I thought you had to tell Westfield if you were using mk2 uprights but not sure what they do about it.

'big brake' caliper carriers fit mk1 and mk2 no worries there

Agree with Dommo. From previous reading i was under the impression that the rack mounts could be positioned by Westfield either for a Mk1 or Mk2 donor, however a call to Westfield should be able to confirm this.

With the brakes it is only the bolt on caliper mounts which change, the calipers are all the same for both the 1.6 and 1.8 so all interchangeable.

To the best of my knowledge the ABS ring is cast onto the hub, i've never considered trying to remove mine.

I mentioned the MK2 donor and the steering upright being higher to Simon when I ordered the kit and he said there was no difference-who's the best person to talk to regarding it?

Got the hubs off, will look at the ABS rings tomorrow!
