Engine building for Dummies

Quinten,

I have a 4 wheel Machine Mart stand that you're welcome to borrow (earlier version of this https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-ces560-560kg-engine-stand/) as I've just about finished rebuilding my XE :)

I had to improvise with a hoist in my garage due to space and construction but the chain & tackle type hoist works well

As for swapping to a Zetec - I looked at doing that when I worked out how much all the (decent) bits would cost to rebuild the XE - especially when you can get a brand new crate Zetec 2.0 for £950.

I'm nearly there with rebuilding my XE and it's been on the whole enjoyable but "OCD" set in once I started to spend on getting the parts I wanted to make it as robust as possible and as close to it's potential as I could (220bhp) - you then start to worry about the condition of everything you're rebuilding so as not to spoil the whole lot for the sake of a new part here and there ;):(

About ready to go back in the car..... :)

Hi Quinten, I saw your car at Santa Pod on Sunday, didn't realise it was you until I got home.

I have an engine crane in Market Harborough you can use if you need. You need a way to transport it though as I don't have a car big enough any more.

That's a brilliant offer Colin! Will let you know more about the plan(s) when I've spoken to the current engine owner again next week at the monthly meet (when can we expect to see you there?!? ;))

Yes, but I would never be able to afford it to upgrade the Xflow to the kind of bhp a Zetec would offer as standard. So an engine swap is more suitable

Get a move on ;)

Hi Lewis, what car were you in? Not the one in your avatar? Thank you very much for your kind offer, would the crane fit a Mondeo estate? I would only need it for collection the engine, once it is on the stand, it will be there for a while...

We moved it in an old Focus estate so should be fine. It's been sitting unused since the car is built and won't need it for the foreseeable future. You can grab it any evening or weekend.

Q,

I hope to get out more this summer  :)  - arthritis been bad this winter which has delayed the engine rebuild (freezing cold garage hasn't helped)  :(

Engine is off the stand now so I'll dismantle it (otherwise I can't get the car out the garage  ) - also makes it easier to carry - give me a pm when you need it.
