Onliest Smeg David
I need to replace my windscreen before I cannot see through it. Recent stone chip last Thu 31st March. Being replaced via Insurance. Was thinking of paying extra to upgrade to a heated Windscreen, and getting rid of heater and piping. Would like experiences of others using heated Windscreen! Please :/
Rhett Turner - Black Country AO
From my limited experience of driving with the screen missed up it works very well and quickly. I was glad of it late last year when returning late one evening, (with the heater on and therefore blowing on the screen) I went through a patch of mist and visibility dropped considerably, I realize that the screen had misted up when I look to the side and realized I could see further to the side than I could in front, a quick dab on the button and the screen cleared very quickly. Must admit it one of the things I miss from the Fords I've owned in the past that came with heated screens, so much more efficient and much quicker than blowing air at the bottom of the screen. Marcus Barlow - Show and Events Co-ordinator
Smeg Ive found mine does come in handy and does clear the screen although it does take a few minutes rather than instant, dont forget you will need some new wiring for it and the on/off button which on mine is mounted top right side of dash, there is also an illuination button to show when it is on. Rhett Turner - Black Country AO
I've got a single button and light combined for mine, the button is the momentary switch type.
BobMet
Very happy with the heated screen on mine. Certainly works fairly quickly but a couple of the vertical filaments must have failed as I usually hacve a couple of misty stripes that are slower to clear. Mine came in the Mazda SDV kit and included a timer relay, switch, lamp and wiring.
DE04*
Heated screen works very well and easy to wire in. I broke mine last year and claimed on insurance,I took the broken screen out the frame and took the cracked laminated glass to a glass shop, they cut a piece of 6mm laminated glass for £27!! Bargain, the heated glass from Westfield is over £300.
jay.perry
Might work out a bit cheaper getting one from here http://www.heatedwindscreen.com/acatalog/WESTFIELD-HEATED-WINDSCREEN-1715ACLH.html#SID=528

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Ford own the rights to front heated screens I believe. So every single other motor manufacturer/part manufacturer has to pay a license fee to Ford to use the "technology" in their own windscreens. The result, very few manufacturers, and those that do them are generally not that cheap. (Obviously, every so often some small maker might chance their arm for a bit, I guess. But once Fords lawyers find out...)
Thrustyjust
I thought the patent owned by Fords was now not applicable and anyone can fit them to a car.
Rab (bombero) Reid
Does anyone have any detailed installation re the wiring, switch, etc to be able to retrofit onto a previously non-heated windscreen car?
