Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 - Speaking of his other programs, did he ever get to make the return to England of his "Indian motorbike" trip that he wanted to make? Quote
stephenh Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 I'm a Guy Martin fan, but I agree with Dave that he wouldn't be right for Top Gear. If you read his latest book you get quite a good insight (I suspect) into his character. He really isn't good with strangers or with crowds, and in that sense he is not very good as a "personality". He is only really happy when he is on a motorbike, or riding a cycle or working as a lorry mechanic, which is still so far as I am aware his principal occupation or at least it was as recently as last year. TAFKARM Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Why do they never mention he's a lorry mechanic on his programmes? Quote
stephenh Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Well they do in a round about sort of way. For example, when he did a challenge against David Coultard at Silverstone, Guy on one of his sponsor's racing motorbikes and DC in an F1 car, he was filmed having a nosey around the F1 transporter. Although it was only for a few seconds. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Yep, it's mentioned in passing often enough in his programs that I don't think they feel the need for narrators to give any great detail these days. Indeed some of his shows have segments filmed in the workshops at Moody's (If I remember the name of the firm right). Indeed, on Monday's show, if you noticed when he had overalls on, he was in his ordinary workaday overalls, with the Moody International Scania dealers name and logo on. On the Spitfire show, they even had an interview with his (old?) boss, recounting the story of how he fired his Merlin engine up in the workshop, and after having taken it to far higher revs than he was supposed to do, nearly blew half the workshop away! TAFKARM Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 It was a joke, they talk about it all the bl**** time. Quote
Greggs Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Why do they never mention he's a lorry mechanic on his programmes? Or that he's a Grimsby lad..... Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 It was a joke, they talk about it all the bl**dy time. I wasn't sure, but the absence of smilies makes it harder to tell... Quote
