Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Martin's spot on with his comments. You're in that danger period with the money burning a hole in your pocket. If you've not really experienced a Seven type car, any of them, even the bad ones will seem awesome! I always same the same thing, to anyone completely new to the scene; try and experiance as many different cars as you can, and chat to owners in a non buyer/seller setting. It will help guide you soooo much. Buying a Westfield isn't like buying an everyday tin top. Somethings, like age, certain parts of the spec. etc. really don't matter too much. Getting the engine and gearbox type that suits you is most important, as this is the singularly most expensive swap to do later on. After that condition and build quality are everything, with the rest of the spec. bringing up the rear. The car you've linked to isn't bad at all, perhaps at the top end of the price scale in some respects. As has been said, you could spend the extra couple of grand personalising it, though bear in mind - if you plan to do tinkering and upgrading, that ZEi bodywork has a number of unique parts that could be trickier to work around. Though fine if intending to keep it stock. That said if you actually have £11/12000 to go Westfield shopping with, you could get into a much more recent Duratec engined car, that would be perfect as a high days and holidays tourer, or form an ideal basis for modifying over time into something more focussed. If track days or competition appealed, that sort of budget would also get you a very well sorted, fast track Westfield. Quote
6carjon Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Looks nicely kept but very road and touring orientated. It has a radio, aerial which are unusual and to be honest, useless in an open crude car like ours. The bodywork is rare and I would be sure you can live with an offset bonnet bulge, it offends my own personal sense of symmetry. I would look at some others if it were me to see the range of what you can get. For that money there are plenty to see, it's worth travelling to get a good one. You will be be one of few if you buy a car like this and don't get the upgrade bug. This one is a little different in spec and hence expensive to change. Quote
Mighty Mart Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Hi, Although I'm a newbie on here and only 11 months into westfield ownership, IMHO that sort of money gets you into a pretty large pool of potential model and engine set ups, so there is no rush.... If you go to Stoneliegh, and can hold out for that long, you will get a huge variety of cars to look at and owners to talk to. Don't get talked into getting something you don't want, as I haven't met an owner yet that doesn't think their own car is the best... Westfields are very much like women, and a personal thing....one mans ideal 'model' is another's poison. Sure, you can spend ridiculous amounts of money on the latest models and real big money on modern high powered engines, BUT you can have almost as much fun and go almost as quick on the road, in something well under your current budget as well.... Good luck mate and welcome to the forum. Mart. Quote
TheHighlander123 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 I was in your situation 2 weeks ago. Sold my Evo and the money was burning a hole in my pocket, bought the 1st one that caught my eye and its a cracker, wouldn't change it for anything, but will be doing an engine conversion at the end of this season I was looking for a more "weekend warrior" type As someone said it looks like its well set up for being a tourer. Dodgey Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Regarding buying from eBay - treat it just like autotrader. You don't pay till you are there and happy. EBay car sales is really catching on as autotrader is £40 for three weeks with a cramped description and eBay classified is £15 for a month with unlimited text. Quote
