These poly bushes are less than 3 years old and have covered about 4,000 road miles. The witness mark on the shock absorber is where it was hitting the top of the rear upright.

Metallastic bushes fitted now.

weird coincidence, I was just thinking about posting about this to find out who it was.  was it one side or were they all in a bad state?

Were they definitely pukka "Polybush" - I had "polyurethane bushes" our Land Rover that disintegrated after a year and the remains looked like cheap Chinese plastic (they weren't sold as "Polybush" but as an "equivalent")  :(

NNNNOOOOO   Those are just bushes made of poly rather than manufactured by Polybush...   Give Nigel at AVO a contact, be nice to him and he will help you out for replacements.

Make sure the Bushes are supported by washers at each side at least large enough to cover the flat sides of the bush.

One too many YDG's John!!! See you soon.

They are not the ones for Westfields. The flanges are much too thick for the steel tubes, no wonder they are all chewed up.

I have an old imperial metalastic bush (not Westfield) I need to replace and posted on TechTalk to see if anyone knew of a supplier but no luck. I mailed Polybush with the sizes but but have not had a reply

So I'm going to have to make one in either poly or nylon but what's the best design to use? is a split "cotton reel" with a tube core the best? If so should the flange have a supporting washer with the inner tube passing through?

Is polly easier to turn than nylon?

Any advice would be apreciated before I start trial and error.

Cheers

Are the standard westfield ones not imperial?

Replaced the original 4 Spax units with AVO's, they came with the bushes shown. The bushes on the fronts are ok but you can see what has happened to the rears. I'm going to replace the fronts with metallastic, just in case.

I'd be supprised if you found a metal elastic bush to fit the Avo damper loops. Plus they would be largely unsupported. They need to be a proper push fit. I'd just contact Avo, he might have some better polyones or a different solution. It would at least buy some time.

Nigel at AVO supplied replacement bushes foc. Emailed him on a Thursday, bushes arrived the next morning. He said they had similar problems with a batch of poor quality bushes a few years ago. The new ones have AVO cast on them.

Thanks Nigel.
