Tim.McKeegan Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Good Afternoon, Just after a bit of technical advise if possible. So having been busy building my Westfield, I have spent little time with my Honda CBR600F. Subsequently I though I should fire her up, and she wouldnt!! I always have the battery on trickle charge so should be full, but linked up the car battery, and she turns over, but just wont fire up. Coughs and splutters periodically, but no sign of firing. I drained, the carbs, and tried again. Still no luck, Fuel pump primes and the carbs fill up with fuel so I assume no issue there. Checked the spark plugs and they are sparking. Any suggestions before I send her off to the garage/ or attemp a carb strip down. Thanks Tim Quote
Valentinik Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Have you checked each plug to see if they are sparking? Quote
Tim.McKeegan Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Hi Mike, With the time constraint I only checked 2 and they where fine. It could be the other 2, I only changed the plugs last summer. But to be honest I havent even started it for 4 months. Quote
Kingster Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Might be a classic case of gummed up carbs - bikes have small float bowls so the fuel gums up quicker than on cars. I always drained my bike carbs before any Winter layup to try and avoid it. Are the plugs getting wet - try and place a removed plug near the plug hole - if its getting fuel it will ignite and blow the plug away from the hole - sounds dodgy, but is a good visual indicator that fuel and spark are working! 1 Quote
Tim.McKeegan Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Thanks Chris, Ill give that ago, as long as it isnt going to explode and risk damaging the Westfield!! I'll test the other 2 plugs tonight but the 2 I tested where definetely sparking. I had to sonic clean the Carbs a couple of years ago, and I said I would never leave it sitting again!! Like you say I think it must be the float bowls, A nice evening project!! Quote

Never managed to blow anything up doing that - but <disclaimer mode> user discretion advised! </end disclaimer mode> - (made more of a "phuut" than "bang") Quote
Tim.McKeegan Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 Thanks for all your help, I cant say I am really sure what it was, but stripped the carbs and cleaned them (although they looked good as new), pulled out the spark plugs and refitted, and started first time. Must have been something in the carb but no idea what!! Now I can put her up for sale!! Quote
