Andy - a15cro Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Today I finally made the push to get the standard roll bar off and fit the RAC type. Problem I've got now is my boot box either needs replacing or some major modification. I wondering if I should start slicing it up and adapt it or just go for a pre made one to drop straight in. Im now also missing my high level brake light so a trip to the car builder solutions site is on the cards. Ive a feeling my wallet is going to be on a crash diet over the next few month! Quote
Terry Everall Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Do you need a boot or just a flat top surface like many people use Quote
litcoat Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Andy, I used the boot box system manufactured by AA composites, works well with the rac roll bar, before I fitted this there was an aluminium panel system with access hatch again to fit the rac roll bar which just blanked off the back end,it's surplus to requirements if you want it. Cheers Mark Quote
Andy - a15cro Posted February 14, 2016 Author Posted February 14, 2016 Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to have a go at a bit of modification with the existing box. I really want to keep somewhere to store stuff. Then when it all goes wrong I'll contact AA Composites lol Quote
shrops-paul Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 I cut my box and refitted it. It was tough and very messy - pink dust everywhere. Have you gone for the Westfield RAC bar with the removable stays? I followed someone elses guide to the whole process and used a dremmel to cut the GRP, following marks and lines drawn on in whiteboard pen. I'll dig out the link... Quote
shrops-paul Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Here is it http://home.btconnect.com/astro-site/installing_rac_roll_bar.htm and my blog post about the process https://shropshirewestie.wordpress.com/2015/09/03/roll-bar/ I found I had to cut the boot box, fit it to the car then slide the stays back into place and do up the bolts. Top was easy but the chassis ones were tough! I made a boot box liner out of some spare neoprene matting too. Quote
Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup) Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 You have put some good work into the first link write-up. Looks good. Quote
Andy - a15cro Posted February 16, 2016 Author Posted February 16, 2016 Cheers, yes its got the removable stays, mess isn't a problem as i will do it in the workshop at my office and someone else will tidy up!!! I thought about using some plastic pipe split in half to give it some shape. Glass from the back and fill the front to keep it neat then just paint it up. Quote
