Factory built Alloy Sevens and Alloy Sevens to Japan

I was pleased to read the article about David Jenkins and his early alloy Seven.  As some members know, I am attempting to put together a register/history of the pre-lit alloy Westfield Sevens.  David's car was one I didn't have on my list and seeing it brought the total number of cars I have some information on to a wopping 27 (out of 132 built).

Reading the article brought up a couple of questions for me.  First, how many of the 132 alloy cars produced were built by the factory and how many were sold as kits?

David states, "I took lots of photos of completed cars bound for Japan."  This begs the question, how many of the alloy cars went to Japan.  Were all of the alloy cars sent to Japan factory built or were some kits  At present, I have not been able to track down any of the cars which went to Japan.  If there are any club members in Japan who would like to correspond, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Michael

I don't know if it was the same for the ''7' but in the Robinshaw & Bouckley book there is a picture on page 22 of a car transporter full of completed SE's that are destined for Japan.

I don't have any details of the owner now but do you have this one on your list? I saw it back in 2009 at my local car show the Helmingham Festival of Classics in Suffolk. The owner and his wife were also members of the East Anglian Lotus Club and were displaying the car on their stand.

Mark,  Thank you for the photographs of GLY 1C.  The only information I had on this car was a small for sale ad in the Feb/Mar 1991 issue of Westfield World.  The photographs provide more information than I had.  Terrific.

Hi Michael,

Great to see you have information on 27 cars!  My build of chassis 35 is progressing slowly, but I'm enjoying the process and I now have all the parts for the Morris Marina back end and the Triumph front.

Good to hear from you.

Regards

Gary
