Does anybody know if there are any online companies you can send a drawing to to get a price?

I need a turned part for my build.

Or failing that if anybody on here is interested in giving me a price please let me know.

Steel, 15.75mm OD, with a 7/16" ID thread in each end 25mm length and 138mm in total length.

I can make on my lathe but I don't have a 7/16 tap.  Also do you need left hand and right hand threads?

Thanks for the reply and the offer of help.

I'll have a look around at prices for a 7/16" tap and also see if I can find some suitable material bar.

As is often the case with these things i find buying tools can sometimes end up as expensive as taking it to somebody who already has them.

I'll let you know how I get on.

also is it 7/16 unf or unc

Yes thanks also Bunje,

Basically the threaded internal ends are for securing only so both can be right handed. I am now wondering if they could be M12 instead as the securing holes are 7/16" but easily be enlarged to 12mm.

Would Stainless be any more difficult to turn than mild steel? The bar is a replacement for the steel one on which the pedalbox pedals pivot on. The standard westfield one is mild steel but has a finish that looks as though it has been sanded with wet n' dry. It is secured with a long bolt all the way through but I haven't been able to find a suitable replacement that is longer so the plan is to have a bolt in each end instead.

Don't what you need it for but McGill Motorsport do various threaded bosses and inserts.

Stainless will be more difficult to tap certainly.

I may have a 7/18 UNF tap or

I use a guy in the next village to me for machining.

If you let me have a dimensioned sketch, I could ask him for a price. I also have a 7/16" UNF tap.

Thanks all for the replies.

Clearly I need to give this some more thought.

Different grades of stainless depending on the amount of chromium added . some is very tough and work hardens ,  needs special tooling , some types more pliable but not good under tension or shear  :t-up:

I think I'll stick with mild steel.

You could try Mike Burrows - not too far away from you, although he's more into bicycles these days he has a motor sport background so would know what you are talking about. He doesn't do the computer bit, so need to phone him, if you phone him tell him Ian Perry gave you the tip off, actually second thoughts better not because i always beat him when we race.

If you want the part mate, I can get it done for you for the cost of posting it to you or you can arrange collection via a courier.

I'm the purchasing manager for an aerospace tier one machining company supplying mostly rotary but also fixed wing platforms.

Let me know if you still want the part of if your requirements have changed.

Mart.
