foxterrier
Thanx for taking time to read this post. As a new owner, and having VERY limited mechanical skills, I'm creeping/grovelling to everyone here, seeking advice :-) I've had my 2006 Sport widebodied 2.0 Duratec for about a month now, and am very frustrated at the lack of decent weather days :-( In prep for when we get some decent weather, I thought I'd have a poke about underneath and set the damping levels to those suggested on various posts. All was going well until i got to the rear offside and i thought that the spring didnt look quite right. Upon further examination, i can see that it is broken about a 1/3 of the way from the top. The spring itself is white in colour. Now. My question. Can i get away with just replacing the spring - or should i do it in pairs? Also, whilst doing this, is it worth replacing the dampers at same time? and............. Are these the right replacements? http://parts-shop.westfield-sportscars.co.uk/suspension-braking/rear-suspension?product_id=147 http://parts-shop.westfield-sportscars.co.uk/suspension-braking/rear-suspension?product_id=140 and are they only available from Westfield? Thanx for your patience, and please treat me carefully. Steav
AdamR
You don't have to replace the springs in pairs - but - you need to match the new one to the length, internal diameter (1.9" or 2.25" usually) and rate (how much force it requires to compress the spring) of the old, broken one. However, if one is broken, could the other be on the way out too? A pair of springs is about £50, so could be worth changing both at the same time. The dampers are a completely separate unit, so unless these have their own issues, they don't need replacing. The springs are generic items, so don't have to be purchased from Westfield. Faulkner produce decent quality springs at the price I mentioned, and have a wide range of sizes and spring rates available. They can be bought from the usual suspects - JJC, Demon Tweeks, Merlin Motorsport, eBay, etc. Hope that helps
Terry Everall
Its an easy job to replace them if you know what you are doing. Make sure you reset the shocker adjusting rings to the same position or you will alter the ride height and hence handling of the car. You might need a C Spanner to rotate the adjusting ring/platform I think that the Duratech used 200lbs springs on the rear but call Mark Walker at the factory to check as "white ones" does not tell us anything
XTR2Turbo
When you take them off it should be stamped or written on the bottom
foxterrier
Thanx to everyone above for the advice. Turns out that after speaking to Mark Walker @ Westfield, the White ones listed are the correct ones and the fact that they are White IS important (as opposed to Red). :-)
AdamR
Yes, they are coated in an easily-identifiable colour for fitment at the factory. The colour relates to the spring rate.
Terry Everall
I have a pair of white ones about 10 years old that would not be right for the Duratec
