I have just updated my op system on my iPhone 4S. I now have to send messages as iMessages . Is this the same as a text and does it use 3G as well as Wifi.

What would be the advantage of turning it off? I could not send a text today as it said i must activate iMessage

I have found if i don't have a good 3g or wifi signal (or the recipient) then the message won't send. However if turned off you don't need a 3g signal to send a message.

so now I have enabled "iMessage" will the text still go by 3G if I am not in a Wifi area?

If it can't send an iMessage due to no data etc, then it will give you the option to send as text.

iMessage shows as blue, text as green.
