neilwillis Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 I may be stating the obvious, but you need to check the following: 1. Is the CD Drive capable of writing to CDs 2. Is the disk formatted, and ready to use Neil Quote
damianc Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 Before actually writing to a CDR any piece of software is going to check that the CD can be written to. This could fail for a number of reasons. The CDR has already been written to. These media are write once read many and so cannot be overwritten. The media is damaged, surface scratching, manufacturing defects etc (not common) The wrong media is present e.g the drive may be a CD writer but the medium is a re-writeable CD. Another outside possibility is that you are trying to write a volume of data which exceeds the capacity of the CD. Unfortunately, error messaging in Windows progrems tends on the whole to be unhelpful as it tends to be free of technical information so as to make it easier for non computer literate people to get a handle on it. Generally it is not possible to easily get extended info, nor are there tools to dig deeper. Make sure you're not writing more than the capacity of your CD (650Mb,700Mb) and try a couple of different blank CDs Quote
steve wilson Posted January 17, 2003 Author Posted January 17, 2003 BA***rd thing. I tried again tnite and its working now Quote
damianc Posted January 18, 2003 Posted January 18, 2003 Dear Mr Gates, I purchased your marvellous Windows OS in the belief that it was going to liberate me, enable me to doing things faster, in more colours, and with life fulfilling participation. I am disappointed..... Quote

damianc Posted January 18, 2003 Posted January 18, 2003 cosmos positioning and the fho far valve then.... Is the "fho far valve" some kind of dll thingy? Quote
westy Posted January 18, 2003 Posted January 18, 2003 A fho far valve is the name of any broken part blamed by my father to blag something he cant fix! His been using it for 40+ years well before dynamic link libraries came about I’m sure! Son: 'Dad, why wont my toy work anymore' Dad inspects toy shakes and looks at batteries Dad: 'Afraid its the fho far valve Son, I cant fix it' Dad carries on reading paper and gently snoozing.... damianc Posted January 18, 2003 Posted January 18, 2003 A friend of mine has the concept of a "wallet valve". Most things are fixable if the wallet valve is fully open. Quote
