Odin's_Beard
So i managed to finally complete stage 1 of my journey to Westfield ownership and passed my trailer test this morning. Strictly speaking i don't think i needed to do it with my licence but i figured the trailer training would be a good thing. So aside from somehow cocking up the reverse and needing another go at it and being blinded by the unseasonal sun in Swindon today i got through it. Second time lucky though; i failed on 23 December! So now i need to raise some funds and get my current weekend toy sold and start hunting for the right Westfield!

Dommo
Well done - sounds like the weather couldn't have been any more different than when I did my test Did you go across the magic roundabout?
Odin's_Beard
Congratulations! Although real men dont trailer their Westies... They do when they have wife, small child, (big) dog and half the house with them on a visit to family in Wales and want to go for a blast! Well done - sounds like the weather couldn't have been any more different than when I did my test Did you go across the magic roundabout? Yes magic roundabout was fun, not too busy thank goodness, when i was in town on the 23rd for my 1st attempt the place was gridlocked! Thanks for the tip going with Sue's Driving School; thats who i went with as well, she and Simon were very good and helpful.
TAFKARM
How much did it cost from start to finish if you dont mind my asking? Its something I'd consider in the future (when I have wife, small child, (big) dog and half the house with them on a visit to family in Wales and want to go for a blast!) Odin's_Beard
How much did it cost from start to finish if you dont mind my asking? Its something I'd consider in the future (when I have wife, small child, (big) dog and half the house with them on a visit to family in Wales and want to go for a blast!) Good question, so today cost me £310 which was the test fee, tuition from 0730-0900 and the "hire" of the vehicle to do my test in, my instructor obviously had to sit at the test centre and wait for me to get back). I had 3 sessions over the last few months if memory serves me correctly and a test which i failed. The tuition sessions were for 6 hours each (try driving round Swindon for 6 hours!) and i can't remember the hourly rate but it ended up costing a fair bit more than i had hoped. it would have been a lot cheaper if: I passed on my first attempt I was a better driver to start with therefore needing less tuition (worth noting that as well as all the usual bad habits i have developed over the last 20 years they teach different methods of driving now, so not engine braking and stuff like that) I was able to get the time off to do tuition sessions and test closer together- Swindon examiners are on work to rule at the moment and have been on strike a few times so getting a test date i could do was tricky. I had picked somewhere easier than Swindon to learn to tow a trailer in! On the plus side it has made me a much better driver day to day in terms of driving more defensively and not getting irate with other peoples poor driving habits, much more relaxed getting from A to B. See you in Wales, we can take the dogs for a walk and talk cars whilst the wives chat baby stuff and unload the car at my parents house! Odin's_Beard
Just had an email from Westfield about the launch of the Westfield Sport 250; amazing how good news (about my test pass) travel so quickly! Will have to get my savings going now then.
Dommo
The good thing is if you ever move to a house with a chicane in the drive, you'll be able to reverse the trailer down it no problem
Odin's_Beard
The good thing is if you ever move to a house with a chicane in the drive, you'll be able to reverse the trailer down it no problem I thought that, since i find reversing trailers a doddle having learned to drive at 12 on Fergie T20 but somehow managed to nearly reverse in a circle on the test and had to pull forward and have another go. Stevec33
I guess that will be with the newer 4 cylinder st motor rather than the old 2:5 5 pot? Sounds like a good idea
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
It's the 2.0 Ecoboost, four cylinder turbocharged unit. Ford have really pushed this engine as a customer/crate engine in the US, to the extent that it's available with a US Ford Racing ecu as a ready to go unit, from Ford agents. There's also a wealth of upgrades for it in the US already, from Ford and Independant specialists. They showed us the engine at the last open day, I hadn't realised they were so close to having a running car with it though.
