Cloud storage?

Recommended Posts

I wonder if anybody can offer any advice to any pitfalls regarding the use of Cloud storage?

I am being offered 'free' storage with Ms Onedrive but wonder what the catch is.

From trying to read up on it it appears you may have to pay for it after 2 years.

Any experiences of using cloud storage???

Thanks John for the reply

Thing is I don't use any of the 'Cloud' stuff at the moment, however my phone does not have an internal SD card so therefore in order to expand the storage I need to consider the cloud based storage.

Still confused

For everyday users there is no real catch.

If you're part of the tin foil hat brigade there's some conspiracy to read all your documents and spy on your holiday photos.

I pay for dropbox and love it

All my documents, photos, work stiff etc  is  stored on dropbox and I can have all, or any combination of, my files available anywhere. And always the latest  version

I wouldn't hesitate if was choosing again

Yeah...its very unlikely your personal pics would get hacked and end up on line.

Oh...hang on...

I don't own any clouds, and can't imagine how I would store my clouds if I did own some.

Carol says my head is often in the clouds.

That must be where mine are kept.

Don't forget that it isn't a cloud but a shed probably located somewhere that sheds are cheap

If the stuff you back up really matters to you, don't rely on other people to look after it. Dig deep enough into most cloud offerings and you'll find you have zero comeback if they lose your stuff for you. Most cloud operators have convenient outsourcing arrangements whereby they can duck any responsibility.

Stuff is usually "free" for a reason.
