Type 9 Clutch Release Arm Cable Rubber

Recommended Posts

The rubber that holds the end of the clutch cable in place on the Clutch Release Arm.  Anyone know where I can get one from - just refitting my engine/gearbox following the 1st gear change and power mods and can't find the original - I know I put it somewhere safe....

The only place I've found them is Westfield at £10 http://parts-shop.westfield-sportscars.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=175

I've not seen anything on the end of the release arm

There is this http://www.burtonpower.com/bellhousing-rubber-gaiter-sohc-ford-pinto-x-flow-cologne-bh6r.html

Its a dustcover for the end of the clutch release arm, fitting in the oblong hole in the bellhousing, covering the cable to the hole in the rim of the bellhousing.  I've got one and I'm sure its still on the Vauxhall bellhousing, but there are a number of different bellhousings

I take it from this comment that you can fit the cable without the rubber, £0 sounds better than £10 plus P&P to me so none it is. Perhaps that's why I couldn't find one on eBay, Burtonpower etc.......

Jon,

My clutch cable also has the rubber piece you are referring to, fits around the cable and sits on the inner side of the clutch fork. I recently replaced my clutch cable as part of maintenance prior to next years trips and found this piece, took me about 30 minutes to remove it. I did notice that when I put it on the new cable it forced the inner cable across at such an angle the inner cable rubbed on the outer cable. When I took it off and locked the cable nipple behind the smaller of the two holes the cable runs straight and is not likely to rub like the old one did so I have not refitted it.

You don't need it, it is only there to keep the cable located in the fork properly. They always used to deteriorate due to oil contamination so got the left shoulder treatment ( chucked away ). We fitted hundreds of ford clutches in the garage I worked in in the 80s and 90s and if contaminated never refitted these and never had an issue. If you feel it may not stay located put a bit of silicone sealer around it but shouldn't need it.
