Gerry H Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 I received this email and thought it might just be of interest here. If it is something you fancy getting involved in, I can forward the email complete with flier and entry form. Hi there, I hope you don’t mind me contacting you. I am part of the casting team on a brand new BBC2 series called Britain’s Most Spectacular Backyard Builds. The programme is a celebration of Britain’s most passionate inventors, makers, engineers, mechanics and general all round tinkerers who make and create inventions in their home garages, sheds, workshops and living rooms. We’re looking for people who want to create a big backyard build as part of our show. With a budget and 10 weeks, we’re giving people the chance to create their own spectacular backyard build! Do you know someone who would love to make their own backyard rollercoaster, trebuchet, helicopter or carousel? We’re looking for the unique, the unconventional, the unusual inventions, contraptions and creations… the Wallace and Gromit’s of the UK! Whatever the build, big or small, in this exciting new series we want to showcase a variety of ambitious, innovative and imaginative builds, from the experimental to the incredible! I wondered whether you would be able to circulate our information to anybody who you think might be interested in this opportunity. Our deadline is soon so we’re keen to speak to anybody who would like to be involved ASAP. Filming for the series will take place over a 10 week period between January - March 2016 and those who take part will only be required for up to 4 days of filming (which can include weekends) Solo and group applications considered. For those who are interested, they can email the team on makers@rdftelevision.com or visit the BBC website to download an application form http://www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours/takepart/most_spectacular_backyard_builds Many thanks for your time, Will Twitter @britsbestbuilds Any views or opinions are entirely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of RDF Television unless specifically stated. tisme Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 "We’re looking for the unique, the unconventional, the unusual inventions, contraptions and creations" Well................ that's just about every Westfield covered then? A trebuchet made of carbon fibre powered by a 2 litre Duratec ..... now that sounds like an idea Good luck to anyone putting themselves forward....... Quote
Lyonspride Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I'd be careful, these programs can either be really good OR they can be designed to poke fun at societies "odd balls"...... Which unfortunately is how society views these sorts of people. Quote
Justin767 Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Hmmm, Well I've been thinking of mounting a big propeller on the top of a V8 then wearing a bluetooth controller to make my own Airkix-style skydiving duct.. But I wouldn't want to be labelled an 'odd ball' so I think I'll just keep it for my own amusement.. ;-) Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I'd be careful, these programs can either be really good OR they can be designed to poke fun at societies "odd balls"...... Which unfortunately is how society views these sorts of people. Yeah, there are still good shows on, but sadly more do seemed to be aimed negatively. I'd be in a catch 22 situation; I'd want to see a run of the program to judge the tone and spirit, but of course, if everyone was the same, nothing would get made. Would love to have taken part in a Scrap Heap Challenge style program, or similar, as whatever p*** taking went down, the program was done with respect for the content and people, and it was the leg pulling you get amongst equals, not the snide, condescending stuff you see more often from producers now. It's interesting if you follow people like Mark Evans in the social media sites just how far from what they (TV Executives) want now, the old programs like the "is born" series are. Thank goodness we still get a few jewels in the wilderness, and fingers crossed this will be one of them. Quote
