allegory
Having a slight rant here but when are headlights too bright for safety? In short, driving along unlit roads a night and a Q7 catches and sits on my tail - I'm in my daily driver, Volvo v40, which is a fairly modern car but I was astonished to see that it was creating a shadow in my own headlight pool because I was being bathed in white light from the Audi. Needless to say I saw this whilst desperately squinting to prevent the general glare from dazzling me. I get the point that brighter lights mean for better vision for the driver but surely not at the expense of other road users?
Olliebeak
Totally agree ,they are usually the same idiots who drive with their fog lights on, which I thought was illegal except in fog or falling snow.
Mattt
My car will do this, it will direct my full beams around the car in front and leave them in a darker box - but lighting up the carriageway/verge either side of them.

Captain Colonial
Picking up a new Volvo V60 with active bending Xenon headlights on Monday and looking forward to the better vision and reaction from the other drivers with mixed teelings. I do know the rear lights are stupidly bright just on running lights let alone braking, like looking at a red laser projection display head on, good for safety I suppose but I don't like brassing off other drivers. pistonbroke
Have to agree modern headloghts , running lights etc far to bright and totally unnecessary , get sick of being blinded by other idiots on the road , looking forward to the BMW 's who ride on my rear bumper with there stupid searchlights on , just another banner to be waved by the " Look at me I own a BMW so in a class above you " types
XTR2Turbo
Most of the high end lights are pretty good unless they are right up your chuff. They have a very defined cut off and adjust their angle very very quickly as the car pitches. It's the muppets with badly adjusted lights and retro fit xenon bulbs that are the problem. My brother has just got a new RS6. The lights on that are incredible. They zoom from low beam to high beam as required automatically rather than switching hi / low. they turn the road to daylight but if you stand infront of the car they don't look that bright because they are so well focussed. As said above poor DLRs are annoying as they are bright and too diffused

jeff oakley
I have a Volvo XC60 and the lights are adjustable at the front, which makes a huge difference even on dipped beam. The day running lights are as good as some headlights but they all pale away at the rear brake light intensity. When I brake it is like a fiery ball following me and if near a junction they reflect back off the signs. I have never used the rear fogs as I suspect they will be visible by the space station
Captain Colonial
Exactly Jeff, the rear lights are so bright it's like putting your face six inches from a red traffic light.. I'm surprised it doesn't hit you with a heat wave. The DRLs are fairly intense but nothing compared to the rears. The rear fogs would probably result in an injury lawsuit.
