Terry Everall
I am fitting a GSM wireless alarm system and the instructions are absolutely hopeless! Does anyone know whether the system will work without a SIM card as I don't want to use the text or alert facility etc
Rich8977
Terry It should work without a SIM card you might to disable it in the programming, what make is it Cheers Rich
Terry Everall
It is a GSM 99+8 alarm system Instructions have no reference to not using a SIM card but as I said they are useless
Blatman
What frequency do the alarm sensors use to talk to each other? I ask because they usually use the 2.4Ghz frequency which is the same frequency as most wifi routers. If they do use the 2.4Ghz frequency to talk to each other may possibly cause issues with your wifi internet so be careful. If you have devices that can use 5.0Ghz wifi (and most can these days) then you may want to think about disabling the 2.4Ghz frequency on your wifi router. You've got enough internet connection issues as it is and a wireless alarm system isn't going to help!
Terry Everall
Oh I do hope thats not another issue! if I ever get it installed
Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO
Hi Terry, I've looked at the manual here:http://www.gsmteknik.dk/image/data/GSMALARM_LUXUS_UK.pdf Is this your unit? If you don't put a SIM card into it, you won't need to worry about the functionality. Page 14 gives details of programming the phone number to be called in the event of an alarm. Any particular reason you don't want to know your alarm's been activated when you're away from home? I'd have thought it to be useful? Best regards, Ian
Terry Everall
I suppose I am wondering what I would do if I got an alert that the alarm had gone off. Unless I am 5 mins away what use is it ? If on holiday I am not going to fly home just to see if its a false alarm or real. I have had alarms going off when a big spider crawls across the PIR etc. The model you show is almost the same as mine so would all functions work if no SIM card fitted (i.e. alarms go off etc just no telephone call etc)
wacomuk
Fit some cameras that work over the internet then if the alarm goes off you can logon and see what's happening
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Fit some cameras that work over the internet then if the alarm goes off you can logon and see what's happening This. It's part of what we normally do for clients; their existing alarm will alert them wherever they happen to be. They then connect back, via a phone, iPad, computer etc to check the houses CCTV, and decide what measures to take from there. With some of the systems, our clients can remote open the gates to let friends/neighbours in, if they need someone to have a look around. They can also re-arm the alarm if required. With IP cameras, this sort of thing is becoming really easy for anyone to set up without the sort of expense that was involved not too long ago. Terry Everall
The Wifi speed was not really improved and still not sure how I can check the BT Infinity service. I did have to move it again due to the Alarm position

Terry Everall
BT Infinity When I put phone number in and postcode it says around 29Mbps but the text says it cant promise that and it only uses the code as a general area and general speeds. I may have to try getting a phone number to check what is actually possible as its driving me mad
