So thats what mobile phones are used for , often wondered why everybody seems to have one

I seem to recall either Top Gear or Fifth Gear testing the upper limit a speed camera could detect a speeding motorist and when their TVR went passed at 170mph it was too fast to activate the speed camera. Dare say the police could hear the GTR coming before it was seen.

IIRC, it's more a case of the detection still happening, but the high speed target isn't in the frame anymore. But that only applies to certain types of camera.
