John K
After a year of looking to replace my 26 year old Tag Sports Elegance (SEL) I've decided I don't really want anything else. I do like the TAG brand but I know a few watch geeks and they've told me TAGs now certainly wouldn't last 25 years as they are more show than quality. And mine is still going, but cant last for much longer. And seeing how 2nd hand SELs go for £300 to £500 I can get two which should be enough to see me planted in one... So the question is, do any of you know of a good place on the tinternet to buy second hand watches? I've done all the searches so have sites to go to, but my preference is to use a service somebody can vouch for. So it's a long shot, but anybody got any suggestions they have used? John K
Thanks for all the guidance, but I gave up on getting a like for like replacement for my old TAG. Plus it was starting to look a bit small as my wrists got fatter... So I decided to go for the 'Chuck Norris' of the watch world and got one of these instead. http://www.watchshop.com/mens-luminox-f117-nighthawk-6400-series-blackout-watch-a6402-bo-p99942822.html A proper heavy hunk of steel (Luminox typically do lightweight resin watch bodies, but at 180g this steel one isn't..!) And it has a F-117 engraved on the back, which is too cool for words - even if nobody ever sees it.
CraigHew
Each to their own I guess. I retired almost 5 years ago and and haven't worn a watch since.
John K
Each to their own I guess. I retired almost 5 years ago and and haven't worn a watch since. It really is down to each person..! I once broke my watch strap in Doha airport whilst returning from a business trip. Even though I was going to be home 10 hours later, I had to buy a cheapo watch from duty free just to have something on my wrist. Not having a watch on just feels odd to me. shrops-paul
Have you looked at these: https://www.nitewatches.com/gb/ Same GTLS ilumination but much cheaper. Good quality too. I have had their basic NATO issue MX10 for about 5 years and it still looks new. I would definatley buy another.
TAFKARM
Why do you want to replace the SEL? Couldnt you get it serviced and brought back to as new?
John K
Why do you want to replace the SEL? Couldnt you get it serviced and brought back to as new? Well if you send it back to TAG (via an official Jeweler), TAG will only do the work they deem necessary or nothing at all. I sent it to them for a quote to fix the bracelet. They found about 7 things wrong with it (all cosmetic) and wanted approx £700 to do the work. I said just do the bracelet. They said "No, we do everything or nothing, we have our brand reputation to think of" So I said send it back as is. I then bought the Luminox for approx the same price as fixing the TAG..! John K
Top Tip Sparky, thanks... But I 'fixed it' with a £2.00 pin from Timsons, I had to Dremel the pin to length but its holding fine. Then I took a few links out and gave it to the wife. The face is too small for my wrist now and the style for women is chunky watches (and she is quite sporty) so she's using it at the mo. And I'm sort of loving wearing the Luminox. How ever I will deffo keep that web link for the future.
