Kyle Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I have a Yamaha SRT 1000 sound base which is a great low cost option if you don't want speakers everywhere (which I don't, they're horrible unless it's in a dedicated TV room or whatever). I listened to all sorts at Richer Sounds from £190 bars and bases up to the £600-£700 stuff and the Yamaha SRT 1000 represented the best value for me. Also, whilst not as good as a true 5.1 system, it does do a pretty good job of bouncing the sound off the walls. We watched The Descent the other night and the first time there was a drip in the cave I actually looked to my right wondering what the weird sound was until I realised it was coming from the sound base lol. Terry Everall Posted November 2, 2015 Author Posted November 2, 2015 Now looking at he Canton DM50 Comments please Quote
Terry Everall Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 I always thought BOSE were supposed to be overpriced and a bit over rated? Quote
Kyle Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I think that along with SONOS they are overrated and overpriced. However, Bose do make some very good headphones. I wouldn't buy a Playbar, very disappointing product and a case of style over substance. What you have to keep in mind is soundbars were designed for wall mounted TV's and as such are a compromise (in the same way that bases are a compromise against full 2.1 or 5.1) so you're actually buying neat packaging at the expense of good sound. The DM50 is very similar to the SRT1000 that I have, I listened to both my preference was by far and away towards the SRT1000. The best advice anyone will give you is get down to Richer Sounds, have a play and listen to them for yourself. Also, the Yammy is a £399 product down to a bargain £289 whereas the DM50 is a £299 product now £250. Quote
Terry Everall Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 KYLE...has the reliability been ok with the Yamaha? Quote
Kyle Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Yes Terry no problems whatsoever. It's a lovely unit too, quite large width and depth wise but nice and low with an MDF body to support TV's up to 55" and 40kg with a metal rill across the front. Very high end looking especially once you see some of the other stuff on display. It's definitely worth setting up the surround sound feature properly though. Quote
Kyle Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 You adjust the speakers depending on the size of the room and where your tv is positioned either using the remote of the free smartphone app (which is easier). There are presents but for me the best result came from manually adjusting. Quote
SootySport Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 You need to visit a Hi Fi shop and let your ears choose a sound system. All the specialist Hi Fi shops now sell and demonstrate decent TV amps/speakers. Yes, they'll have very expensive set ups but also if they are worth their salt, will have a couple of budget systems, but they will be best available at the price. Advice on setting up will be free from the experts, always part of their service. Quote
Deanspoors Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 If you're willing to spend a little more, I have this speaker package; http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-packages/monitor-audio/mass-5.1/moni-audio-mass and this AV receiver http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/sony/strdn1050/sony-strdn1050 The sound is very impressive, only down side to a setup like this is the cabling, but you get a true surround sound, music through the system has to be heard to be appreciated, and it feels as loud as a nightclub with no distortion at all right the way to max volume. £300 more, but 2x the experience. Arm Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 On the strength of this thread went and listened to a few and the Yamaha did not disappoint. So much so its now sat under the TV and playing via the Bluetooth. Brilliant. Quote
Terry Everall Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 I am favouring the Yamaha so thanks for that Ash Quote
CrisisWolf Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Overpriced wifi router board in an expensive box! And I say that even though I am used to things like B&W and Crestron these days. If you want to spend that sort of money get a proper 5.1 AVR (Denon or Marantz. They actually the same circuitry in a different box. The Marantz is much smaller) and some speakers or get a MUCH better soundbar: There are plenty on Amazon for much less than the Sonos and with a sub. This one is not "much less" but I have heard these and they sound very good. Much better than a Sonos I'll wager but I have never compared them side by side. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yamaha-YSP-2500-Digital-Sound-Projector/dp/B00NOZ0QNE/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1445283793&sr=8-9&keywords=yamaha+soundbar Denon 4K AVR http://www.amazon.co.uk/Denon-AVRX1100W-Wireless-Networked-Receiver/dp/B00L3AP7LS/ref=sr_1_13?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1445284124&sr=1-13&keywords=denon+avr Marantz version... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Marantz-NR1506-Network-Receiver-Support/dp/B012IUESZM/ref=sr_1_sc_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1445284244&sr=1-3-spell&keywords=marantz+4k+avr Saw my first 4K content last week on a 50ish inch Samsung. Really amazing. Haven't bought but agree with the Yamahaa YSF2500 as being a better choice. Its designed as a soundbar, not as a wireless music streamer from the outset. Quote
