'09 Fisher Fury R1 for sale - SOLD

Hello all,
 
I bought the Fisher Fury below a few months ago from Joe / welderman on the LocostBuilders forum. It was a bit of a 'tester' car to see how I felt about having a bike engine for use both on the road and track, and also to see how the additional bodywork compared with a Se7en type worked out. In short, I love it and it's been a wicked bit of kit, but it's given me naughty thoughts about something even lighter and doing something I've wanted to for years - a scratch build. Selling this will also mean I can keep the Westy without feeling guilty :d:laugh:

So, here goes:

- 2003 Fisher Fury Chassis, built and registered in 2009. Road legal and MOT'd until Jan '16.
- 2003 (but low mileage re-built engine when the car was built in 2009 - receipts to prove) Yamaha R1 5PW 1000cc engine, with sump baffle (essential for track).
- 6 Speed sequential box with paddle shift. Clutchless upshifts when rolling, just lift the throttle a bit - this is AWESOME! Use clutch on the way down. 1st gear is about 54mph, then 6th tops out about 123mph - you can imagine how little revs drop with each shift!
- Custom airbox with cold air feeds from front of the bonnet.
- Power Commander 3 with recent rolling road tune (see graph - strong engine and lovely curve shape).
- Varley gel battery (PC680, I think) with trickle charger port (charger included).
- Custom exhaust with heat wrapped manifold.
- Just had fresh Silkolene PRO 4 15w-50 Full Synthetic Ester oil and filter.
- 500kg with about 20L of fuel, corner weighted for 80kg driver and geometry set for track use (quite a lot of camber).
- Front Wilwood 4-pot Powerlite brakes with Wilwood Poly-A pads (also have Smart Pads for road driving).
- Rear 9" drums (more than powerful enough for the weight of the car!)
- Tandem master cylinder, braided lines.
- Spax adjustable shocks, approx 200lb springs up front and 180s at the rear - firm on the road but not excessive, nice on track.
- Polo rad, ducted in so water temp sits perfectly stable even on warm track days. Before I added the ducting temps would rise gradually and it meant keeping sessions to ~10 mins or so.
- Escort quick rack with alloy mounts, custom made steering column, bearing mounted to reduce play and increase steering feedback.
- Removable steering wheel.
- Almost new aeroscreen in lexan with supports to reduce flex at high speed.
- Carbon dash with aluminium switches and push button starter. Gear indicator and shift light.
- Lifeline mirrors with curved glass - excellent visibility.
- Carbon drivers seat and Tillet W2 passenger seat (over £400's worth...!) - can swap driver's seat to a more normal GRP seat if you'd like, the current one is pretty 'snug' and it fits me well.
- 4 point harnesses in both sides.
- Custom made roll hoop with additional bracing.
- Long range fuel tank, about 47L, does 400 miles on the road, or easily a full track day on one tank!
- Independent rear end with 3.62 Sierra diff and lightweight half shafts, custom prop.
- Full flat floor with NACA ducts to cool diff area, plus cutout for sump.
- Rear diffuser and front splitter / air dam (easily removable).
- Available with the black / silver 13 x 6" Minilite wheels and Avon CR500 tyres (on wear bars, just road legal I think) or 13 x 7" Gloss Black Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 on 888s (very good tread, almost new) as shown in one of the pics.
- Custom tonneau cover included, with zip down the centre, so you can drive with just one side on if you need (really good on the road like this).
- Full build folder with loads of receipts.
- 4x cans of matching RAL2004 Orange paint included for the bonnet.
- GoPro not included!


Other info:
- Insurance costs me £112 a year fully comp on 3000 mile policy (32 y/o with good NCD).
- Got photos and other info from the original build in 2009 if you would like to see those.


Since I've had the car I've done the following:
- New with new Yamaha OE crank bolt
- Full geo and corner weighting
- Bump steer correction
- Front splitter fitted and tidied up so the bonnet opens with it on
- Bled brakes
- Oil change (gearbox and engine oil are the same)
- Rerouted and shortened some coolant hose runs
- Adjusted throttle, brake and clutch pedal ratios to give more feel in the clutch and throttle, plus better braking position
- Chassis repair to front upper rail (small crack)
- Ducted rad
- New front pads
- New screen
- Rolling road tune
- Cleaned up earthing points
- New plugs
- New mirrors
- New steering rack boots
- New radiator cap (precautionary after seeing a mates one fail)

Reason for sale: Decided to tackle a 'scratch' build (from a pile of steel tubes) so I can't justify keeping this!

Note there was a gear selection issue in one of the videos, this was identified as the shift linkage fouling the column under the dash so not giving an accurate engagement, and has been solved (see the Three Sisters video for the latest one).

In short, it's a simple, very fast and reliable car that doesn't want anything mechanically, so would suit someone who either wants to drive it hard as is, someone who is happy to spend some time tarting it up cosmetically to turn it into a real head-turner.

Looking for £4795 on the Minilites or £4995 with the Pro Race 1.2s.
 
Based near Preston, Lancashire, PR5. Would be interested in a PX with some sort of bike engine, preferably ready to drop into a car, or any other associated goodies I might need for the new build.

I actually haven't had it tested - the only tracks I've been to are Anglesey, Blyton and Three Sisters, who run drive-by testing and only come and find you if you trip the meter.

 

Blyton and Anglesey list 105 static / 95 driveby, therefore it's definitely less than that. I do have a 'proper' (not phone app) noise meter I could use to check if you like?

I have often been urged to look at bike engines cars by my son (who notionally shares our Westfield with me, although it often seems a bit one-sided when expenditure is involved!), but I have been led to believe that noise levels are sometimes a problem. That said, another BEC Fury owner at a trackday earlier in the year (100dB(A) limit said he had a lower reading than my Pinto engine.  :suspect:

 

My question was for interest's sake only, thanks Adam, so don't worry about doing a check. Aforementioned son is off to the Antipodes next year anyway. Some people will go to any lengths to avoid debts! :d

Thanks for the link Chris - have seen that before. Will certainly be taking inspiration from a few similar builds but the plan is to start completely from scratch, rather than use existing plans :yes:

 

At the moment I'm thinking full-on single seater style, but with cycle wings for track days and some 'adornments' to the front wishbones to help with aero, however a full body wouldn't be impossible to tag on...

I have often been urged to look at bike engines cars by my son (who notionally shares our Westfield with me, although it often seems a bit one-sided when expenditure is involved!), but I have been led to believe that noise levels are sometimes a problem. I know what you mean there, the BEC itch is always one I have wanted to scratch too. I also heard that noise levels could be an issue, but I think that might be mainly induction, and with cars which have the standard airbox poking out of the bonnet?

 

That's cool, no worries. Wish I could escape over there too, sounds mega!

Hmm, that is slightly 'concerning'. Interesting list of excuses though - I would hazard a guess it's actually insurance. Maybe I need to get busy with the fibreglass then and make a body!

 

Have done an hour's testing at 3 Sisters before, fun and local but 'proper' tracks would be nice... So maybe sprints is the way forward.

 

 

Anyway - thanks - I'll have a go at a build thread when I have something more interesting to offer :)

 

Looks like the car may be staying within the WSCC... someone is just checking if there's enough space in the garage!
