Kevin (Mr T)
As soon as I can find a suitable 771M spec engine, I'm going to find out just what makes one of these beauties tick. Obviously I'm going to need the support of a suitable manual and therein lies the question. What manuals and where can you get them. I'm guessing there must have been a Haynes manual for the Mk2 Cortina 1600GT/1600E models, but I haven't managed to find one. Another much quoted book is "Rebuilding and Tuning Ford's Kent Crossflow Engine" by Peter & Valerie Wallage, but have you seen what they go for!!!!! Does anyone know how to get this material at a sensible price or can anyone recommend something else, bearing in mind I need comprehensive information (I have no skills until I do this). Any help would. as usual, be appreciated. Kevin.
Mark (smokey mow)
I have a copy of the rebuilding Kent crossflow book which I'd be willing to part with for a reasonable offer.
Welly Jen
Other Ford cars had crossflows and will have Haynes that may be more readily available. Mk 1 & 2 Escort, possibly mk 1 Fiesta. From that era they have full engine rebuild guides for standard engines. Jen

Difficult to know what a reasonable offer is! Shall I start us off at £40?
Mark (smokey mow)
Difficult to know what a reasonable offer is! Shall I start us off at £40? sounds fair and for that I'll even include a very ropey copy of the Mk1 Fiesta Haynes manual. IIRC the Mk1 XR2 used the 653 block and a shorter water pump due to being front wheel drive but is otherwise essentially the same as the RWD crossflow. Drop me a PM and we can sort out collection or delivery.

TableLeg
As soon as I can find a suitable 771M spec engine, I'm going to find out just what makes one of these beauties tick Hi Kevin, I'm guessing it's a typo but the block number is actually 711m. Just in case you've been searching the net looking for parts.

B.RAD
There is a 771m block which is for fwd drive cars only - glad it was just a typo or that would have been a bad start! I've got a digital copy of the crossflow rebuild manual if you want it? I can PM it across. Not trying to do Mark out of a sale as I think you'll still want the hardback version - easier to work from - but might be useful to you.
Pistol Pete
Just remembered I might have a xflow crank sitting my parents garage, will check later in the week. Used to have a 711M block that required a rebore but it went to the scrapyard after my parents tired of tripping over it
