pre-lit steve
Just welded in my seat mount brackets for my new seats, but cannot fit them. Because I am waiting for the paint to dry, where I have touched up after welding and also giving an extra coat to the places that need it while the interior is stripped out. Probably be tomorrow now, must be more patient!

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
well, be patient then, it should be touch dry by November... This isn't a joke either! Loads have people have come across horrifically slow drying Hammerite recently.
CosKev
Never touch the stuff anymore! Rust Oleum is a much nicer finish, and drys way faster!

tisme
This isn't a joke either! Loads have people have come across horrifically slow drying Hammerite recently. Without wishing to go off topic - I agree about a lot of paints now not being "as they used to be" I suspect it's to do with the solvents now used - or lack of (and EU directives of course ) I tend to only use paints that require at the minimum white spirit to clean up or specialist thinners - such as POR 15. I once used a "water based" metal primer from B&Q (yes, water based metal primer !!! ?) needless to say it was carp and peeled off within days (and before the water made the metal more rusty). Solvents for me I'm afraid and the stronger the better ...
SootySport
Simoniz Tough Coat in rattle cans is the new Hammerite. Straight onto bare metal, resists stone chips wonderfully and dries pretty quick.

Straight onto bare metal, resists stone chips wonderfully and dries pretty quick. Ah, good to know. Used to love 'Smoothrite' in rattle cans. Last time I used it was like spraying slightly tainted water and it never dried. Gave up waiting in the end, cleaned of the sticky film and used some Halfords stuff instead. Will try the Tough Coat next job. Cheers.

Have used lots of different Hammerite products all my life, from black smooth rite to blend in perfectly with chassis touching up on the Westfields over the years to the traditional hammer finish for DIY maintenance round the house. But it's been crap for a few years now, like Chris, last time I persisted in giving it another go, I ended up wiping it off and starting from scratch. Will have to find some of the Simoniz and give it a go.
