Sat Nav for use in daylight

Hi,  have been wondering which is the best type of sat nav,  with the brightest screen,  for use in an open top Westie when the sun shines?

Do motorcycle sat navs have clearer graphics (hence their higher prices?).

Or would a home made sunshade be the best option?

Hello.

I just use a flat screen tomtom and I have had no problems in sunlight.

I use the Garmin Zumo on both my bike and the kitcar, depending on how you position it you do get glare off the screen.

The graphics are no brighter than non-motorcycle units.

As I have it hooked up to my Helmet headphones via bluetooth I dont actually look at it too often.

I have a TomTom Rider motorbike satnav for Westy use. I think the extra cost goes on waterproofing more than anything. Glare on the screen makes it hard to read sometimes. It is five years old now and technology has probably moved on. It has a sun shade sort of built in to the case, so a homemade one is a good idea.

I've jsut bought (last week) a tomtom 5100.  It replaces my 15 year old tomtom which is slowly loosing the will to live.  Apart from the other obvious feature benefits, the screen is nice and bright too (a lot brighter than the old one anyway).  As has been said, it's mostly about position and alignment to reduce glare.....

I use both car and motorcycle specific sat navs. There isn't any difference in brightness, reflection and the like, it's as has been mentioned already just a matter of positioning. I agree too that the bike specific units are more expensive predominantly because of the waterproofing that has to be built into them.

Garmin nuuvi latest model (can't remember which one) stuck on lower centre of screen angled slightly down and towards me. The angling defeats the glare .

I use co pilot on my phone you can also install it on any android tablet or I Phone etc you buy the licence so you can move it if you change or upgrade you phone/tablet.

uk and Ireland £15.99 when it's on special offer, it downloads the map pack onto your phone and works the same as any GPS no phone signal or data connection required.

I used it in Europe on my motorcycle this year very pleased with it some pros and cons but overall great value for money.

I would use the blue tooth connection and wear a pair of blue tooth sport head phones very compact you could also listen to music  and take calls at the same time and still navigate even if you can not see the screen.

I use google maps on my S5mini phone, works well enough in other than really bright direct sun, vary rairly an issue, certainly not enough to considering going elsewhere.
