SootySport
You know, the Vauxhall 1.6 turbo engine version. Are there many around? I've never seen one for sale.

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
The Sport Turbo is a very specific model, it's sort of a bit more of a European model than one aimed at the UK. It's a turn key (low volume) production car, not a kit. Which is what enabled it to be sold in Europe and other markets, that the kits couldn't be. Over here, it's never really had the enthusiasts behind it, though it does sell. While I don't know for sure how we do as a club re UK based Sport Turbo owners, (though I have an inkling), as far as the Boardroom goes, we have in the past at least, done very badly. So we don't see many of the UK owners on here. That said, the more threads like Martin's Coast to Coast, Buttercups many travels and Julie's tours of Wales etc, (to name but three from the past fortnight), plus stories like the Gold Cup., we may perhaps entice more owners in. As for the let engined cars, they're a completely different kettle of fish, there have been some very effective conversions. It's just that turbo versions of traditional 2 litre 16v Westfields haven't been so popular in this country, but then I guess many were done with older fashioned turbo technology in the past, with characteristics that didn't always suit so well. But it the age of smaller capacity turbo engines is upon us now and will work its way down to the kits too eventually, no doubt.
SootySport
It's that I've had this urge to change to a modern injected engine that consumes less fuel on a trackday, keep running out even though I take 2 20ltr. Jerry cans for top ups during the day. Another option is convert my existing Westfield to the 1.6 Ecoboost but I can't bear the thought of not be on the road for a good few months. Rory's Dad
Why not fit some tbs and uprated ecu on your c20xe Sooty??
Kit Car Electronics
Don't assume you'd use any less fuel on a track day with a modern turbo engine, Bernie- you'd probably use even more to keep the turbine cool... Most efficient will be fuel injected Nat Asp mapped for high octane fuel... Go on, winter conversion project for yours... Can be done very cheaply with a little help
darve
you've always wanted some ITBs Bernie go for it if you go Omex 600, I can help with the wiring although mike may have some ideas

I wonder how much the richer AFRs of the turbo engine is mitigated by being lower down in the rev range?
SootySport
Some good ideas boys, all will be digested and considered. I may well end up spending more upgrading than buying a newer car though. Just would be nice to have a different colour scheme as well, after all I've had this car for over 4 years now. Northern Ireland is nice this time of the year http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/westfield/other-models/factory-built-westfield-seiw-sport-2000-fw-2-0-duratec/4651317
Cleggy the Spyder Man
cost a lot of money to get TB's on it - unless you get some secondhand or maybe bike carbs but that may take a fair bit of time/skill to get them right must admit and hate to say it - if I was to buy another seven type car I would be very tempted by one of these http://uk.caterhamcars.com/cars/seven-160 low power, skinny tyres and good economy - a right hoot
westy turbo
Turbos are not cheap either like TB...when u have an N/A engine, then you need a turbo one...when you have a turbo one, then you need an N/A.. its in our nature....turbos if tuned right, can even be more economical friendly than a high hp engine.i trust the LET engine with closed eyes the vx 1.6 is nice light engine though...what ever you choose, enjoy it!!!
