ShaunD Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 HI There WSCC, I am on the lookout for an IVA Compliant steering wheel for my Mazda SDV which I intend to recycle within the club post IVA. I have a collapsible boss with the MX5 spline at the rear (MX5 shaft spline is 36 teeth, 15.5mm or 5/8" OD) and 6 threaded holes on 70mm PCD at the front to fit a Momo wheel which was salvaged from MX5 but far to big and not IVA compliant. Does anyone have a wheel to fit the 70mm PCD collapsible boss or the complete wheel and boss assembly to fit the MX5 spline? I am happy to either purchase this from you or 'loan' it and then send on to the next pre-IVA club member (like me currently) if preferable. Thanks in advance for any help. ShaunD Quote
Dommo Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I just got an adapter plate made then used a Westfield wheel... and still am for some reason Quote
KugaWestie Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Do you stil have the MX5 standard wheel from the donor? That is what I used for IVA Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I did the same as dommo and made an adaptor so I could use the westfield wheel and crashpad with an MX5 boss. The alternative is as Gary suggests which is the Mk1 MX5 wheel. Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 You could also buy the crashpad for your Mx5 momo wheel which should then make it IVA compliant. http://www.mx5heaven.co.uk/product/momo-crash-pad/ Quote
ShaunD Posted September 6, 2015 Author Posted September 6, 2015 Hi Gents, Thanks for the speedy replies. I am hoping that someone might have the standard Westfield wheel with the crashpad centre that they no longer require to get me through IVA. The Momo I have from the donor seems much too large (about 330mm diameter I think), plus its been doctored quite a bit with thick black tape etc and I am sure it would raise a few eyebrows were I to use it for my test. I could call in at MX5 heaven and see if they have a standard MX5 wheel I guess being as they are 5 miles from my home and always very helpful with scrap parts. Mark - I also like your idea. Perhaps I could buy the final wheel I will use with a crashpad fitted..., or as you also suggest, buy a new one Westfield and make the boss. Hey ho - off to Houston for a week tomorrow with no time to contemplate the important things in life like finishing my SDV. Cheers all Shaun. Quote
darve Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Tom is selling his iva bits as a job lot and David wanted most but not the wheel. Perhaps you could strike a deal together. I bought an Ali disk off eBay to make an adapter plate to use the westfield wheel. I actually like it and have no plans to change it! Quote
Mooch Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I bought a Mk 1 MX5 wheel off e-bay for about £20 and sold it for about the same post IVA. There will be one out there somewhere. Quote
ShaunD Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 Thanks Darve, I'm afraid I don't know who Tom is. Could you put me in touch perhaps? I'll also take a look at a Mk1 wheel on e-bay as you suggest. Regards Shaun. Quote

Prawnabie Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 If you buy a westy IVA wheel you will need to bin the boss as the splines won't fit the MX5 column. I removed the plate on the boss that was drilled for the IVA wheel (100mm ish pcd) and then drilled another set of holes in it for the 75mm pcd boss i was using - free adapter plate! Quote
ShaunD Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 Thanks for the help Prawnabie, I've got the collapsible boss from the MX5 column spline but as you suggest the PCD is about 75mm so wont fit a 100mm Westfield wheel. I was planning to manufacture one of Mark's (now world famous) PCD converter plates when the time comes. Quote
