Not one but 3 tunnels on the A55, with a 70mph speed limit too.

The Nant Ffrancon Pass on the way home, followed by a diversion down and then up the Llanberis Pass, followed by a drink at the Tyn-Y-Coed.

Nice pictures Julie. Looks like you had the best of the weather. The other side of Wales was foggy and murky yesterday.

Thanks, Nic. How unusual to have better weather in the mountains. It was just as good today. We spent the day over the other side of Snowdon, parked at Lake Cwellyn..

Then this engine went past and made my day, it is called 'Enid' it is engine number 2. Bought from Switzerland in 1896 and still running today, pass me my anorak and I will tell you what happened to number 1. OK I don't need prompting, it crashed on it's maiden voyage. Enid is the name of the, then, owners daughter. Shut up now Julie.

I then took a route to Penmachno (via the Llanberis Pass...again...yes) and went on roads with more sheep than cars. Very small roads too, still pretty smooth pothole free tarmac though. I think the views were over the back side of Cadair Idris. I took a left and came back out on the A5 at Ysbyty Ifan.

I was in the  Conwy all day wednesday polishing my boat ,  gorgeous weather , you could have dropped by for a cuppa  :t-up:

sounds like you got lucky with the weather , though its often the case when the sun shines in Conwy and rain elsewhere , the locals blame it on the mountains   :d

Hi Andy,

Yes that was us that waved, we were raving about your full roll cage, it's a lovely look. Never saw the dog though, then again we were not exactly looking for one either! My car is dark green.

Hi Bernie,

Thanks for the offer of a cuppa. We paid good money for a sea safari around Puffin Island, should have traded a bit of polishing time for one with you eh.

I have only driven a whole 5 miles to Capel Curig today and spent the day there. Very brave in a Westfield though, it is recorded as the wettest place in the British Ilses.

It may only be 5 miles away but it is still a great drive. I think it was Thomas Telford that built the A5 and in the right era he would obviously have been a racing car driver. You tootle through Betws-Y-Coed and then as you reach the National Speed Limit sign the road opens out to 2 lanes, goes uphill and gets bendy, what more could you ask for. All but one day I have done that, I am gonna miss it.

One week later and I have beaten my record for the slowest EVO triangle journey. We loved Lake Brenig so much that on the way home today we stopped off and hired bikes in order to cycle around it. The guy in the hire shop said to us last week that he would lock our bags up while we were gone.

We had a great journey home, setting off at 12.00, heading through the Cheshire countryside, avoiding the M6 and sat at the cafe below Buxton by 3 pm. Thanks for the advice on the route.

All packed up and ready to leave Lake Brenig

Having had a brilliant week in a fantastic car, Snowdownia remains my second favorite place, only surpassed by the very expensive Bernese Oberland. I will return and recommend you have a go too.
