msisleman
ST220's are a really nice drive, and their only real downside being 30mpg at best. But if that's not an issue, then it's a no brainer. They're getting dirt cheap too, two mates at work just sold theirs, one almost mint saloon for £2200, the other one needed a few bits doing like wheel refurb etc but still tidy enough, estate, £1500. Get on it!
Fordboi
If you want it, go for it! I've always loved the st220s. Just something about them which the endless sea of bmws and audis don't have. Going back to the st tdci conversation, i see you have discounted it but just incase be aware that they aren't just st220s with a derv under the bonnet. They're actually standard mondeos just with the st220 dress up kit. Suspension and chassis components are unchanged bar a set of lowering springs. Quinten
I drive the ST-TDCi for my sins as a daily and although it looks the same as the ST220, no way you can compare the engines... still, it looks better than most (of that generation) and is not as common, so it ticks the boxes
corsechris
I fessed up to my Alfa ownership on the 'your car history' thread, but for full disclosure, should say I currently have a 166 as one of the daily drivers and another I am using as a donor for my next project - do rather like the Busso V6 engine. A 166 isn't a sports car, it's a brisk comfy armchair IMO but I do enjoy ours.
Kyle
If I only did 3k miles a year I'd have a V12 never mind a V6. Petrol = expensive, big engined cars = cheap. That's my input lol.
John K
OK... Many Thanks for all suggestions. The GS Lexo Barge was an interesting left of field suggestion. Alfas... Yes I can't be a petrol head without owning one (although I do have to say I think a Xflow Westie trumps an Alfa for proving 98 RON runs in my veins) Sooty's suggestion of a R32 did make me think, but... the £8k required to get a good un does require some thought, £4k to get a good ST and associated running costs is a no brainer (sorry if that makes me sound like a nunney, but got no kids so I can...) So... I will start actively looking for a ST220. I just want one and I do think its a modern classic. Guessing signing up to a Ford owners club is the best way to go. Any suggestions..? Petrol Heads as well..? And I will get a proper lairy exhaust and fit the best boots I can get.

I was thinking of the earlier V6 4 motion, they are somewhat cheaper.
