McDuff Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Hi, does anyone have experience of fitting a Facet Red Top Competition fuel pump in an early SE (mine is a 1989 kit)? I understand the pump needs to be vertical , although not sure. I also believe the SE had provision for this type of pump in the wiring loom with a green coloured live feed? What type of hosetails do I need, straight or 90 degree? Previously my car used an engine cam driven pump. Any photos much appreciated. Cheers......................John Quote
Captain Colonial Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Hi John, According to Facet, the fuel pump should be mounted with the outlet above the inlet. This will help with eliminate vapour lock issues. Never locate the pump so the outlet is below the inlet. Horizontal mounting will not effect fuel delivery performance. The fuel pump live feed on mine is a green wire, but IIRC correctly, you're going to twin Webers? If you are and you're using a Red Top, I'm pretty sure you're going to need a pressure regulator as well. The Webers need about 3.0-3.5 psi whereas the Red Top pumps out up to 6.5-7.0 psi, which could damage the Weber's internal gubings. If you already have a pressure regulator, my apologies for appearing to teach you how to suck eggs. Quote
Andy (Sycho) Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I have a build manual from Jan 2000 & That lists the fuel pump feed as green if you have one it should be a rear drivers side by the axle, mine was mounted on diagonal chassis member so it wasn't completely vertical if I remember correctly. O & it shows 90 deg inlet & outlet in the manual. Andy Quote
McDuff Posted September 3, 2015 Author Posted September 3, 2015 Many thanks, Ihave found what appears to be a green/brown wire near the driver's side axle, at the moment I have no way of testing it. Stay tuned ! Quote

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Light green with a white stripe is the more common colour for the pump feed, that said, it's a kit car, so any things possible! Quote
