Andy - a15cro Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Just a question for my own curiosity really. What's the benefits of wrapping exhaust pipes, retain heat? Protect body from heat? Vanity! Quote
Paul Gibney - Lancashire AO Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Ohhh contensious issue I say yes it takes some of the heat out of the engine bay. And if you have a tatty exhaust ( like me ) it covers up the rust.... 1 Quote
s2rrr Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Some say it redirects heat out of engine bay to outside, mine are done. Some say it allows the exhaust valves to potentially overheat. As above a bit contentious Bob Quote
dhutch Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Yeah, its normally about keeping the heat out of the engine bay, and or, off the plastic bodywork. Daniel Quote
CraigHew Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Well actually it's (normally) done to increase power due to the extra heat retained in the manifold and first stage of the exhaust which aids the flow (out) of exhaust gases. As above, it's contentious and only a few hp if any at all??? Some manifolds crack due to increased heat retention, some wraps look awful..... Quote
CosKev Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Or get it ceramic coated Satin black done by Camcoat in Warrington on mine. Quote
Dommo Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Exhaust wrap can also be useful for covering clips on the exhaust outside of the car for IVA purposes. Quote
