I bought myself a GoPro  type camera last week and tried it out for the first time yesterday. Here's the result.

What is the camera? Can you up the frame rate?

Nice quality.

Is it possible to mount the camera a bit higher or remove your headlamp.... Just kidding about the headlamp but it blocks a good view.

The camera is a Vivitar from Maplins, £75 with a sd card. Not sure bout the frame rate as I don't know about frame rates. I'm a bit of a novice really.

I need to find a better place to mount it as it looks like I'm heading into a black hole.

It's on a bike mount on the mirror, I need to make something to go on the wind deflector so I can operate it without using the remote.

Can you Velcro the remote around your steering wheel spoke. That's what I did and its out of the way and I can press the on -off button really easily.

The thing with the remote is that it's infra red and the sensor is on the front of the camera. It also doesn't seem to work every time, maybe I just need to practise with it.

I have looked at the video on my laptop as I looked at the first one on my phone.

It looks........sort of out of focus with a smoky appearance.

Wonder if that is to do with the frame rate mentioned above.

Some of that looks more the angle of the sun,  either overhead, or just in front of you. It's striking the front of the lens and sometimes washing out the image, sometimes just highlighting the odd mark on the lens. (Unfortunately, getting everything from bugs to oil spots and dust etc on the lens is inevitable especially where it can be thrown up off your own wheels.

the frame rate, (sort of the equivalent for shutter speed on a still camera), will make a big difference to picture quality on a moving vehicle like a Westfield. Generally speaking, you want as high as possible. 60 fps (frames per second) works really well. It will also, normally, dramatically reduce any rolling shutter artefacts - that odd shimmering jelly wobble like quality you can see in the first clip. It's essential caused by the vibration from the car interfering with the way the sensor in the camera records the image.

Oh, and don't forget uploading to YouTube can add its own odd artefacts, so we may see things on the clips that aren't on Robbin's originals!

I the camera only has 30fps so don't think I can alter anything. Suppose you get what you pay for, it was a relatively cheap camera. I'm happy with it, just need to sort out a better mounting position so you can see past the headlight.
