elder Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 (edited) 2017 seems like a very long time away for most car buyers but for car builders it isn't. Has anybody looked at what the new rules are going to mean for Westfields? This are a total guess but I suspect that assuming your Westfield cost less than £40000: a Westfield registered in 2017 as new will pay £140 per year road tax. a newly registered 2017 Westfield that carries an age related plate might continue to pay at the level of the donor - which if a non cat donor is likely to be around £260 - or will it count as a new reg & pay £140???. A Westfield registered with a Q plate in 2017 will pay? ? ? ??? Any thoughts? Edited August 22, 2015 by elder Quote
CraigHew Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 If you shoehorn a Dyson motor into the engine bay the vehicle excise duty will be £0 Quote
elder Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 Somehow an electric Westfield seems unexciting but with the next generation of batteries very near & much more energy dense than the current specimens we might all be going that way eventually. Not within the planning horizon of most builders however. The question remains unanswered. Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 RFL for kit cars is not emissions based, instead it is calculated on the pre-march 2001 catagories which for a car having an enine capacity of over 1549cc would be £230 annually. I personally don't see this changing in 2017 as the IVA test only measures engine emissions, it does not include the other and more onerous tests required to calculate a g/km CO2 figure for the car which would otherwise be needed for it to be taxed any differently. Nether the age of the donor and/or whether it is registered as a Q-or age related plate will affect how it is taxed. Quote
